Dunstan and Zak Take Home Weekly CWPA Southern Accolades
March 20, 2012 | Women's Water Polo
For the fifth time this season a Princeton women's water polo player has earned CWPA Southern Division weekly honors. This week freshman Taylor Dunstan was named Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week accolades were awarded to senior Audrey Zak. The duo helped improve Princeton to 19-2 overall, 2-0 Southern, the best start in Tiger history.
Dunstan is coming off a two game-winning goal performance at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. In four games, she scored three goals, made two assists, three steals, drew three ejections and won four sprints. Dunstan's game-winners were versus then-No. 12 CSU Northridge and No. 19 UC San Diego in overtime.
On the opposite end of the pool, Zak provided a huge defensive lift in the field for the Tigers. In four starts, she drew seven ejections, made two steals and scored a goal versus UC San Diego. Versus CSU Northridge, Zak helped preserve Princeton's one-goal advantage to earn a 4-3 victory to open the weekend tournament. In addition to her lone goal versus the UCSD Tritons, she was key defensive cog for the Tigers in their 7-6 extra period victory over the nationally ranked foe.
Dunstan, Zak and the Tigers close out their Southern California road trip with a pair of games tonight. Princeton will face No. 4 Arizona State at 6 p.m. ET, before taking on Azusa Pacific at 10 p.m. ET.
