Georgetown Claims Fosburgh Cup With Men's Lightweight Win On Lake Carnegie

The Georgetown men's lightweights claimed the Fosburgh Cup Saturday morning with a three-second victory over Princeton on the Bud Smith Race Course on Lake Carnegie.
Princeton ended up taking two of three races during the morning competition, including the second win in as many weeks for the freshman eight. One week after topping Navy, the freshman eight finished in 6:32.0 for a win of more than 11 seconds.
The Fosburgh Cup showdown was a battle of Top-4 programs, as the second-ranked Tigers took on the fourth-ranked Hoyas. Georgetown won the race in 6:17.9, while Princeton finished second in 6:20.9. Columbia, ranked seventh nationally and coached by former Princeton assistant Scott Alwin, placed third in 6:24.7.
Princeton also earned a win in the second varsity eight. The Tiger 2V finished in 6:29.0, more than six seconds faster than second-place Columbia (6:35.4). Georgetown took third in 6:44.3.
Princeton will be off next weekend, and will return to Lake Carnegie in two weeks for its annual Platt Cup regatta against Cornell.
