Rigler and Ward Earn Weekly Conference Honors
March 06, 2012 | Women's Water Polo
For the fourth week in a row, the No. 18 Princeton women's water polo team had players earn CWPA Southern Division weekly awards. Sophomore Katie Rigler led the way earning Player of the Week honors, while senior Kristen Ward was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Rigler headlined the Tiger offense at the Harvard Invitational this past weekend, scoring a team-leading 15 goals in four games. She notched a season-high six goals versus conference rival Brown, while adding four steals, two assists and drawing a pair of ejections over the two-day slate. This is the second time the Princeton utility has been named Player of the Week.
On the defensive end of the pool, goalie Ward amassed 30 saves over 88 minutes of work. In three games, she went 2-1, suffering her lone loss of year on a last second goal to then-No. 12 San Jose State. Ward also added a pair of steals and an assist on the weekend.
Princeton (16-1 overall, 2-0 Southern) travels next to the Golden State for a six-game road swing beginning at the San Diego State-hosted Aztec Invitational from Mar. 17-18.
