Women's Track Competes in a Dual at Penn

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/11/12) - The Princeton women's track & field team will compete in a dual with Penn on Saturday, April 14 at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
The meet was originally suppose to be the annual PYP meet.
The dual meet will begin at River Fields with the hammer at 1:30 p.m., followed by the shot put, discus and javelin. Inside Franklin Field, the long jump and pole vault begin at 3:30 p.m., while the first track event - the steeplechase - is set for that same time.Princeton has won the PYP meet three times in the last seven years since it became an annual meet. The Tigers won the crown in 2011, 2009 and 2008 and were the runners-up in 2010 and 2007.
The Tigers won the event last year, dominating with nine victories and 106 points. The host was second with 67 points and Yale was third with 28.
Last season Princeton's wins included: steeplechase, 3,000, 800, 400-meter hurdles, 4x400, triple jump, pole vault, hammer throw and shot put.Alex Banfich won the 3000 with Sarah Cummings '11 taking second. Banfich and Cummings ran 9:28.78 and 9:33.86, respectively.
Mel Newbery won the steeplechase in the first time she's competed in the event this season. She ran 10:40.48. Clare Gallagher finished third at 11:08.39.
Alexis Mikaelian posted a personal record as she placed second in the 1500. Mikaelian ran 4:21.39, shaving nearly nine seconds off her previous best, while teammate Greta Feldman was third at 4:24.24.
The Tigers earned eight of the 12 possible points in the 800 with four Tigers setting PRs. Kristin Smoot won the event at 2:09.78. Molly Higgins was third at 2:10.55, followed by Melissa Zajdel in fourth at 2:10.73.
Danielle Glaeser placed third in the 400 clocking in at 57.54, while Lily Miller was second in the 200 at 25.36.
In the relays the 4x100 came in second with a season-best time 47.75. Princeton's A team won the 4x400 at 3:48.82 with the B team second at 3:51.52.
Joie Hand was the champion in the 400-meter hurdles. She clocked in at 1:03.19 followed by Carrie Vuong at 1:03.30 for second place.
Hurdlers Lauren Barber '11 and Bianca Mathabane '11 finished second and third, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles, with times of 14.63 and 14.93.
Princeton swept the triple jump winning all 12 points. Bianca Williams '11 won the event with a mark of 11.48. Imani Oliver was second at 11.51, followed by Barber at 11.17 and Tiffany Liu '11 at 11.07. Liu was the runner-up in the long jump, reaching 5.32 meters while Miller was third at 5.27.
The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the pole vault to grab 10 of 11 points. Tory Worthen captured top honors in the pole vault clearing 3.95 meters. Lauren Tauscher and Samantha Anderson followed, each clearing 3.65 meters.
Thanithia Billings '11 was the champion in the shot put throwing to 15.22 meters. Isabell von Loga '11 was second reaching 13.36 meters. Billings placed second in the discus with a mark of 39.84. Chelsea Cioffi threw 39.46 for third place. Billings earned another second-place mark in the hammer throw, throwing to 50.37. Emma Ruggiero '11 did better, throwing to 55.82, to win the event. Ruggiero capped off her day taking third in the javelin. She landed a mark of 27.86 meters, with von Loga fourth at 27.22.
