Women's Hockey Announces Class of 2016

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/19/12) - Princeton head women's hockey coach Jeff Kampersal has announced the recruiting class of six student-athletes that will join the team as the Class of 2016.
"We are extremely pleased that Jaimie, Kimberly, Karen, Cristin, Molly and Maddie decided to join the Princeton family," Kampersal said. "They are dedicated hockey players that love to compete and want to study at the best undergraduate institution in the United States. Collectively, their maturity and work ethic will make a great Class of 2016."
Molly Contini, 5-8, Forward, Arthur, Ont./KW Rangers
Contini has been a member of the KW Rangers of the Provincial
Women's Hockey League (PWHL) for the last two years. She led the team in
scoring both years and was captain this past year when she scored 25 goals and
16 assists in 24 games. The Rangers finished second in a 22-team USA-Canada Cup
series in both 2010 and 2011. Contini spent three years in the league, also
playing for the Cambridge Jr. Fury in 2009-10. In those three years she scored
73 goals and 56 assists for 129 points in 94 games. At the beginning of the
season she ranked as the top active scoring leader in the PWHL with 88 points. Contini also played minor hockey for the
Guelph Thunder and the Arthus Vipers. She was named to Team Ontario Blue for
the Women's Under-18 National Championship in 2011. Contini attends St. James
Catholic where she is a two-time all-conference player on the varsity soccer
team.
Karen MacDonald, 5-8, Defender, Ottawa, Ont./Ottawa Jr. Senators
MacDonald has spent the last two years playing for the
Ottawa Jr. Senators in the PWHL. She finished her tenure with the Senators with
six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. Before joining the team, she played for
their Midget AA team in 2009-10 and the Kanata Rangers Bantam AA from 2006-09.
An all-around athlete, MacDonald was the captain of four of her high school
teams; volleyball, soccer, field hockey and hockey at A.Y. Jackson Secondary
School. She was also a member of the varsity touch football and ultimate
Frisbee teams.
Jaimie McDonell, 5-8, Forward, East York, Ont./Toronto Jr. Aeros
McDonell has played her last three years with the Toronto
Jr. Aeros of the PWHL, and was captain this past season. During her first
season, the Aeros were finalists in the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League
(LLFHL). In 2011, the Aeros won the PWHL and finished as the runner-up in the
Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA) Provincial Championship. In 2012, the
team was the PWHL and provincial silver medalists. McDonell has 10 goals and 15
assists, scoring five game winners this past season. She finished her career with
the Aeros playing in 86 games, scoring 18 goals and 33 assists for 51 points.
McDonell was selected to Team Ontario Red for the 2011 National Women's
Under-18 Championship and was named the MVP while guiding her team to the
championship. Prior to joining the Aeroes, McDonell played for the Toronto East
Enders Ticats from 2002-09. McDonell is on the hockey, field hockey, softball,
badminton and beach volleyball teams at East York Collegiate Institute where
she will graduate this spring.
Kimberly Newell, 5-9,
Goalie, Vancouver, B.C./Kootenay Ice Midget AAA
Newell played for the Kootenay Ice Midget AAA boys team in
2011-12. In 2010-11
Newell was a member of the Burnaby Winter Club (BWC) Midget A1 boys team that
were bronze medalists at the Western Canadian tournament. Prior to Kootenay,
Newell played for the Burnaby Winter Club Midget A, Bantam AAA, Peewee AAA boy
teams. The Bantam were provincial championship runners-up, and the Peewee were
provincial champions. Newell was on the Team British Columbia teams for the
2010 and 2011 National Women's Under-18 Championship. Newell was also invited
to Hockey Canada under-18 women's selection camp in 2011. Newell also
represented Team Canada West at the 2010 Boston Women's Chowder Cup where the
team won and she earned the Best Goalie award with a perfect tournament
shutout. Since 2004 she has won more than a dozen MVP awards including at the
U18 national championship in November 2011. Newell will graduate from St.
Thomas More Collegiate this spring.
Maddie Peake, 5-9, Forward, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View
Peake has played the last five years with the Mounds View
High School hockey team. She was captain of the Mustangs her junior and seniors
seasons. Mounds View finished sixth in the Minnesota state tournament and was
the Section 5 champions this past year. A three-time all-conference selection, Peake
was scoring champion of the Suburban East Conference as a senior with 71
points. She was named all-state as a senior in addition to earned all-metro
honors from the Minnesota Star Tribune.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press awarded
her all-state honorable mention accolades as both a junior and senior. Peake
led the Mustangs in points in her sophomore, junior and senior years. The team
MVP as a senior she scored 33 goals and 38 assists in 31 games. Peake finished
her career with 177 points on 75 goals and 102 assists. In addition to Mounds View,
Peake also played for the Minnesota IceCats for two seasons.
Cristin Shanahan, 5-8, Forward, Ottawa, Ont./Ottawa Jr. Senators
Shanahan has played the last two seasons with the Ottawa Jr.
Senators team of the PWHL. This past season she served as an assistant captain.
In her two years she scored 17 goals and 25 assists for 42 points in 84 games.
Shanahan was selected to Team Ontario Blue for the 2011 National Women's
Under-18 Championship. Prior to joining the Senators, Shanahan played with the
Ottawa Senators midget from 2009-10 and the Kanata Rangers from 1999-2009.
Shanahan will graduate from Holy Trinity Catholic this spring.
