Distance Events Kick Off Penn Relays for Men's Track & Field

PHILADELPHIA (4/26/12) - The Princeton men's track & field team competed in four events on the first day of the Penn Relays. The majority of the Tigers' competition will be on Friday.
Highlighting Day 1 as a new PR by senior Peter Maag in the Championship 5,000. Maag shaved more than 10 seconds off his previous best time by clocking in at 14:19.97 to finish 15th. His previous best came this season at the Sam Howell Invitational, a time of 14:30.52. Freshman Matt McDonald ran 14:33.46 in the same event.
Sophomore William Brown recorded his best collegiate steeplechase time as his tackled the Olympic Development Steeplechase. Brown ran 9:17.69 to finish eighth.
In the Championship Steeplechase, freshman Connor Martin placed seventh with a time of 9:04.03. Classmate Eddie Owens was 12th at 9:13.32.
In the final event of the day, sophomore James Webb ran 14:41.58 in the Olympic Development 5k to finish 12th overall with the fourth best collegiate time in the event.
Princeton kicks off Day 2 with the Championship 400m Hurdles at 9 a.m.
