PRINCETON, N.J. (4/5/12) - The Princeton track
& field teams host the 12th annual Sam Howell Memorial Invitational on Friday
and Saturday, April 6-7, at Weaver Stadium. More than 900 athletes have been registered making the Sam Howell one of the largest track meets in the nation this weekend
Attending the meet
are student-athletes from: Adelphi, Binghamton, Boston College, Cheyney, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgian Court, Gwynedd-Marcy,
Harvard, Iona, Ithaca, Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Manhattan, Marist, UMass-Lowell, Middlebury, Monmouth, Moravian, NYU, Plattsburgh, Rowan, Rutgers, Rutgers-Camden, Southern Connecticut State, St. Peter's, Swarthmore, Syracuse, TCNJ, Tufts, Vassar, Villanova and Williams. A number of athletic and running clubs, will be attending as well.
The meet will begin with the men's hammer throw on Friday at 4 p.m. The men's and women's discus will also be held on Friday. The long distance events begin at 5:15 p.m., with the men's 10k 'B' heat with the last event scheduled at 10:30 p.m., the women's 10k.
On Saturday, the women's hammer will kick things off at 11 a.m., while the women's 4x100 at 12 p.m., starts things on the track. The final event is slated for 6 p.m., the men's 4x400 relay.
Last year the women's team won four events. Junior Greta Feldman won the 800 with a PR of 2:11.46, as Princeton went 1-2-3-4-6 in the event. Sarah Cummings '11 won the 10k with a meet record time of 34:44.45. Thanithia Billings '11 took top honors in the shot put with a throw of 14.55. and Emma Ruggiero '11 was the top collegian in the hammer throw posting a Princeton record of 59.21. Sophomore Imani Oliver was the triple jump champ launching to 12.04.
The men's team won six events. George Abyad '11 won both the shot put and the discus with marks of 16.03 and 50.74, respectively. Craig Perace '11 set a PR of 63.97 as he won the hammer throw. Sophomore Tom Hopkins was a double winner as well, taking top honors in the long jump and 100. He sprinted the 100 in 10.91 and jumped to 6.91 in the long jump. Senior Donn Cabral won the steeplechase with a time of 8:54.55.
