PRINCETON, N.J. (4/7/12) - The first big home outdoor track & field meet of the 2012 season is complete as Princeton wrapped up Day 2 of the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday, April 17.
Highlighting the day was sophomore Tom Hopkins who won the 200, 4x400 and was the runner-up in the long jump.
Hopkins won the 200 at 21.48 beating out 34 competitors. His time was 0.30 seconds faster than the second-place runner.
The 4x400 also posted a win by 0.30 seconds. Hopkins along with senior Ivan Charbonneau and freshmen William Egi and Daniel McCord clocked in at 42.02.
Hopkins wasn't done yet. He jumped to 7.20 (23-7.50) in the long jump to finish in second place. Hopkins reached the mark on his final attempt. Also competing in the long jump were sophomore Shane Molidor and senior Richard Sheldon. Molidor hit a mark of 6.92 (22-8.50) on his second attempt to finish fourth, while Sheldon jumped to 6.19 (20-3.75) on his first chance to take eighth.
Senior Patrick Park was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw He threw to 15.29 (50-2) on his second attempt. Freshman Scott Rushton was third with a toss of 15.27 (50-1.25) on his third try.
Over in the pole vault, freshman Adam Bragg took second place as he cleared 4.80 (15-9). Senior Derek Hynes cleared 4.50 (14-9) to take fourth.
Freshman Rob Mohr finished third in the 110-meter hurdles crossing the line at 14.74. Classmate Stephen Soerens ran 16.06 for 10th place. Soerens would also place in the top 10 in the discus as he threw to 33.80 (110-11) and in the high jump at 1.84 (6-00.50).
Sophomore Omar Jarrett placed seventh in the high jump launching himself to 1.94 (6-4.25), while classmate Brad Pelisek took seventh in the discus with a PR of 38.22 (125-05). Pelisek was the lone Tiger to compete in the javelin and he threw to 51.28 (168-03) to finish ninth with his second PR of the day.
Senior Nilan Schnure recorded a time of 55.31 in the 400m high hurdles to finish ninth.
In the 100, freshman William Egi posted the best time for the Tigers at 10.94 to take seventh. Senior Ivan Charbonneau ran 10.95 for ninth place.
Sophomore Michael Williams freshman Bradley Paternostro went sixth and seventh in the 800 with times of 1:49.79 and 1:50.67, respectively. Both are PRs.
Princeton will compete at the George Mason Invitational next Saturday, April 14 in Fairfax, Va.
