The 13th-ranked Princeton women's water polo team earned the No. 6 seed in the 2012 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship. The Tigers will face No. 3 seed USC in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 11 at 4:45 p.m. ET at San Diego State's Aztec Aquaplex.
The single elimination championship will continue through Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13. All eight teams are guaranteed to play three games at the tournament.
The top three seeds went to teams from the MPSF in No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 UCLA and No. 3 USC. Both the Cardinal and Princeton's first round opponent USC earned the at-large bids into the eight-team field. Automatic qualifiers made up the fourth through eighth seeds in UC Irvine (Big West), Loyola Marymount (WWPA), Princeton (CWPA), Iona (MAAC) and Pomona-Pitzer (SCIAC), respectively.
The Tigers are 0-1 all-time versus the Trojans, dropping a 10-4 decision at USC on Mar. 18, 1998, the second season of women's water polo at Princeton.
Princeton (28-4) won the CWPA Eastern Championship for the second time in program history and first since 2000. This is the first time in program history that the Tigers will participate in the NCAA Championships.
