Hooks, Rigler and Ward Earn Final CWPA Weekly Honors
May 18, 2012 | Women's Water Polo
The No. 10 Princeton women's water polo trio of Camille Hooks, Katie Rigler and Kristen Ward earned CWPA Southern Division weekly honors for the final time in 2012. Rigler earned Player of the Week honors, Hooks was named Rookie of the Week and Ward took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Rigler is coming off a seven-goal performance at last weekend's NCAA Championship. She went on to earn NCAA Championship All-Tournament Second Team honors, a program first, after scoring a hat trick versus No. 20 Iona on May 12 and tallying four goals versus No. 7 Loyola Marymount the following day. The sophomore utility earns the conference's top weekly honor for the fourth time in her career.
Freshman Hooks earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season. The utility notched a goal versus eventual NCAA runner-up No. 2 USC to open the tournament on May 11 and scored a pair of goals in Princeton's 15-11 loss to LMU to conclude the weekend.
Senior Ward capped off her four-year Tiger career with 18 saves over the three-game NCAA Championship. She brought her career all-time saves total to 899, for second in the Princeton record book. Ward earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the 10th time in her career.
Hooks, Rigler and Ward were part of the first Tiger team to earn a berth into the NCAA Championship. Leading up to the NCAAs, Princeton went undefeated in Southern Division play and won its second Eastern Championship in program history. The Tigers went 1-2 at NCAAs, earning their lone win, 9-5, over Iona. Princeton (29-6) boasted its first-ever 29-win season in the program's 16-year history as a varsity sport.
