Why? That's easy: The former St. John's Prep star from Beverly has been named head coach of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 team.
Kampersal, who has coached at Princeton (his alma mater) for the last 15 years, has spent the last week at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. taking in two tournaments for U-16 and U-17 girls before picking his team.
"The best 16s and top 17-year-olds in the country are playing here," said Kampersal, a former All-Ivy League and ECAC star for the Tigers who shares the school record for most games played consecutively (107). He was a 10th round pick of the New York Islanders in the 1998 NHL Draft.
