Field Hockey Welcomes Six in Class of 2016

Princeton head field hockey coach Kristen Holmes-Winn announced the addition of six student-athletes for the 2012 campaign. Joining the Tigers on their quest for an eighth consecutive Ivy League title as the Class of 2016 is: Teresa Benvenuti, Maddie Copeland, Saskia de Quant, Kate Ferrara, Anya Gersoff and Debi-Michelle Jantzen.

The young women who make up the Class of 2016 chose Princeton because they wanted the ultimate challenge: to combine arguably the best undergraduate education in the world with one of the top field hockey teams in the country. Teresa, Maddie, Saskia, Kate, Anya, and Debi-Michelle are a highly motivated and driven group who crave challenges and want to push the limits in all areas of their lives. Teresa Benvenuti • Midfield/BackMorristown, N.J./Oak Knoll School
A four-year
starter at Oak Knoll School, Teresa Benvenuti comes to Princeton following a
very successful prep career. She earned All-State, All-Group One, All-North
Jersey, all-conference and all-county first team honors twice and in 2011 was
All-America Third Team selection after setting a school record for most points
in a season. In 2010, Benvenuti was an integral part in the Royals New Jersey
Tournament of Champions title victory. A former member of the U.S. U17 and U19
National Teams, she currently is a member of the U21 team. Benvenuti also
previously captained the Junior National Indoor Team during its winter training
trip to Scotland. Most recently, she helped Team New Jersey win the 2012
Field Hockey Women's National Championship and was named to the Senior Women's National Development Team.
Maddie Copeland • Forward
Highstown, N.J./Peddie School
Maddie Copeland is coming off a standout career at the Peddie School, where she set the single season scoring record with 33 goals as a junior and broke it as a senior with 41. She was the 2011 New Jersey All-Prep Player of the Year and a New Jersey Regional All-America selection. A 2010 member of the U.S. U17 National Team, Copeland helped guide Team South to the 2011 Junior High Performance National Championships.
Saskia de Quant • Forward/MidfieldMonaco/Sevenoaks School
A player boasting significant international playing experience joining the incoming class is Saskia de Quant from Monaco. A dual
citizen of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, her resume boasts stints in Great Britain, France and Hong Kong. de Quant's international experience also extends to
playing with the French U16 National Team. A talented athlete, she also
spent a semester at the IMG Bolletieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Kate Ferrara • MidfieldSpring City, Pa./The Hill School
A high school teammate of current Tiger Annie McLaughlin, Kate Ferrara was a four-year letterwinner at The Hill School. She helped guide the Rams to the Mid-Atlantic Prep League title twice and served as team captain during her senior season. Ferrara was a two-time All-MAPL First Team selection and earned All-Area First Team and team MVP honors in 2011. A member of the Junior Women's Indoor National Team in 2011 and 2012, Ferrara was part of the squad's recent Winter 2012 Scotland Tour. Ferrara is also a five-time National Indoor Tournament champion and two-time National Hockey Festival champion.
Anya Gersoff • GoalkeeperGreenwood, Colo./Cherry Creek
Goalkeeper Anya Gersoff was an All-America and Colorado All-State First Team performer over her four-year starting career at Cherry Creek High School. With Denver Field Hockey Club, she won the 2011 Junior National Championship and participated in three consecutive National Futures Championships, winning in 2012. Gersoff joined the U.S. U17 National Team in 2010 and moved to the U19 squad in 2011, where she played in the Vancouver series against the Canadian U21s. A talented lacrosse player as well, Gersoff will also play for the Tiger women's lacrosse team.
Debi-Michelle Jantzen • Midfield
Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River
A four-time All-State selection, Debi-Michelle Jantzen helped guide Shoreham-Wading River High School to the county championships each year. She was an All-America First Team honoree and earned all-conference honors five times over her career. Jantzen was the Wildcats team MVP three times and a captain as a junior and senior. She spent two years playing with the U.S. U17 National Team before joining the U19s for international tours in Uruguay and the Netherlands. With her club team The Edge FHC, she helped the squad win the National Hockey Festival five times.
The six newcomers will make their collegiate debut in the Orange and Black on Friday, Aug. 31, when Princeton kicks off the 2012 season at Duke at 6 p.m.
