Kampersal's U-18 Team Wraps Up Three-Game Series with Canada

BLAINE, Minn. (8/19/12) - The U.S Women's National Under-18 Team split the first two games with Canada and lost in a shootout in the final game of the three-game series.
Canada took a 3-2 game on Thursday, Aug. 16 before the US won 3-1 on Friday, Aug. 17. The US came back from a three-goal deficit in game three to knot the game 4-4 to force overtime. The shooutout would extend past its standard three-rounds and was won by Canada in the seventh round.
"It was a game of momentum and it was an exciting finish," said Jeff Kampersal, head coach of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team. "We showed a lot of heart and passion to come back and I thought both countries represented themselves well this weekend."
Incoming Princeton player Kimberly Newell was 2-0 in goal for Canada. She played three games, logging 124 minutes. She made 73 saves and allowed six goals for a .924 save percentage.
The U.S. finishes the 2012 series with a 1-0-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record and is now 8-7-3 all-time vs. Canada in six years of the event's existence. The team will regroup this December for the 2013 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship, held in Finland from Dec. 29, 2012 to Jan. 5, 2013.
