Sharkey Tabbed Ivy League Player of the Week; Snaps All-Time Scoring Record
September 04, 2012 | Field Hockey
Princeton senior Kathleen Sharkey was named the first field hockey Ivy League Player of the Week of 2012, it was announced by the league office Tuesday. Following her seven-goal performance during the Tigers' opening weekend, the striker took home her sixth career weekly honor.
Sharkey returns to the lineup after spending the last year with the U.S. Senior National Team. Upon her return to collegiate action at then-No. 5 Duke on Aug. 31, she promptly influenced the game. The forward tallied her ninth career three-goal game and added an assist in Princeton's 5-2 win against the Blue Devils.
Two days later behind a hot scoring hand, Sharkey topped Friday's hat trick with a four-goal outing at then-No. 13 Wake Forest. After Princeton conceded an early advantage, she was there to lift the Tigers to a 4-2 victory.
Sharkey is now first all-time in career goals scored with 76 and second all-time in career points with 175 in program history.
No. 4 Princeton (2-0) will remain on the road, traveling to No. 8 Penn State (3-1) for a Thursday, Sept. 6 matchup in University Park, Pa. at 6 p.m. The Tigers then will open the home slate on Sunday, Sept. 9 versus Richmond (3-1) at 12 noon. The game will also mark the squad's first game at the newly constructed Bedford Field.
