Kampersal's U-18 Team Lighting It Up in Finland

HEINOLA, Finland (1/2/13) - Jeff Kampersal's US team is on a tear at the 2013 IIHF World Women's Under-18 Championship in Finland. After the three preliminary games, the US is 3-0 with three shutouts. The US defeated Russia 7-0, Czech Republic 10-0 and Sweden 8-0.
The US gets a bye during today's quarterfinals and will play in the semifinals on Friday, Jan. 4. The medal games will be the next day, Jan. 5.
At the end of the preliminary round, the US leads all nations in scoring efficiency (15.15%), power play (40%), goalkeeping (100.0%) and has taken the fewest penalties (10 PIM).
Kimberly Newell's Canadian team is also 3-0. Canada defeated Hungary 4-1, Finland 4-0 and Germany 7-0 to earn a bye in the quarterfinals. Newell recorded her first international shutout in the Finland game making 10 saves.
The teams will await the results of today's quarterfinal games to learn of its next opponent.
