PRINCETON, N.J. (1/26/13) - The Princeton women's hockey team resumes action on Tuesday, Jan. 29 when it faces first-year program Penn State in University Park, Pa.
Tuesday's game concludes the Tigers' six-game road trip that dates back to Dec. 8. It also marks the first competition for Princeton since Jan. 12 because of final exams that concluded this past Friday. Princeton is 6-12-2 overall and lost its last two games, to No. 2 Harvard and Dartmouth. Senior Corey Stearns leads the team in scoring with 21 points on four goals and 17 assists. Teammate Kelly Cooke has scored 11 goals and adds five assists for 16 points. Junior Sally Butler has five goals and six helpers for 11 points, while sophomore Brianna Leahy chips in 10 points on six goals and four assists. Freshman Kimberly Newell has a 5-10-2 record in goal missing a handful of games when she was with Team Canada winning gold at the Under-18s. Newell has a 3.26 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Sophomore Ashley Holt provides back up in goal. She is 1-2 with a 3.73 GAA and an .849 save percentage.
Penn State is 7-16-1 after dropping a pair of games to Syracuse this past weekend. Five of the team's wins have come against DI teams. Leading the offense is freshman Shannon Yoxheimer. Yoxheimer has 12 goals and 12 assists for 24 points. Junior Taylor Gross is second in the scoring column with 18 points on four goals and 14 helpers. Sophomore Jess Desorcie contributes 16 points on five goals and 11 assists. A pair of freshman, Jill Holdcroft and Hannah Hoenshell have 10 points apiece. Junior Nicole Paniccia has made 18 starts in goal. She is 6-11-1 in net with a 3.18 GAA and a .923 save percentage. Freshman Celine Whitlinger is 1-5 with a 2.46 GAA and a .943 save percentage.
