Johnson Earns Third Southern Defensive Player of the Week Honor
March 21, 2013 | Women's Water Polo
For the third time this season Princeton women's water polo freshman Ashleigh Johnson has been named CWPA Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week. This is the goalie's fifth career weekly conference honor, as she has been named Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week once already too.
Versus four ranked opponents at the Aztec Invite, Johnson made 36 saves, seven steals and two assists to help the Tigers to a weekend split. She made eight and 10 stops in wins over then-No. 16 UC Davis and No. 13 CSU Northridge, respectively on Mar. 16. Against then-No. 8 Hawaii and No. 7 San Diego State, she combined for 18 saves for the second consecutive day.
On the year, Johnson has 197 saves, 24 steals and five assists. She has started all 18 games this year and is 14-4.
The Tigers head next to the LMU Invite in Los Angeles to tackle four opponents.
