Princeton Places Third At Lightweight Invitational On Charles River
April 21, 2013 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
Princeton finished third in the Sunday morning regatta on the Charles River in a time of 7:17.5. Harvard, ranked second in the nation coming into the weekend, will likely ascend to the top spot after winning in 7:05.7. Stanford, the three-time reigning national champion, finished second in 7:11.1.
"It wasn't the results we hoped for, but it appears that all of our boats are in the hunt for medals at the championship part of the season," head coach Paul Rassam said. "And we look forward towards making that a reality."
The Princeton second varsity took second in its final. Harvard won in 7:25.7, while Princeton topped Stanford in a time of 7:33.5; the Cardinal finished third in 7:38.9. The Princeton novice four placed fourth in 9:18.2
This was the lone race of the weekend for Princeton; the Tigers had been scheduled to take on Harvard for the Class of 1999 Cup Saturday morning, but that was cancelled following the police activity in Boston throughout Friday.
Princeton will be back on the road next Saturday to take on Georgetown for the Class of 2006 Cup. The Tigers defeated the Hoyas by more than two seconds last season on Lake Carnegie.
