Hoffenberg ?15 and Lapkin ?17 Win Gold at Maccabiah Games

Princeton junior Drew Hoffenberg '15 and incoming freshman Hannah Lapkin '17 concluded a successful week at the Maccabiah Games in Israel by helping the U.S. men's and women's water polo teams, respectively win gold. The duo was one of 27 individuals or teams to win gold for the U.S. in the open category.
Hoffenberg and the men outscored opponents 111-21, defeating Italy, 30-2, Hungary 26-6, Brazil, 23-7, and Great Britain, 23-3, in round robin play. Team USA capped off the tournament employing an early 5-0 rally en route to a 9-3 victory versus Israel in the gold medal game.
Lapkin and the women also won their games by considerable margins, outscoring the four-team field 76-17. The U.S. topped Brazil, 31-1, Hungary, 19-3, and Israel, 12-7, in the group stage. Team USA and Israel met again in the gold medal game, with the U.S. again coming out with the victory, 14-6.
Hoffenberg now awaits the commencement of the Princeton men's water polo season. The Tigers open the year with Santa Clara on Friday, Sept. 13 live on ESPNU at 6:30 p.m. as part of the team's Princeton Invitational hosted at DeNunzio Pool.
Lapkin joins the consecutive CWPA Eastern Championship Tiger women's team and they will open their season in February 2014.
