Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll
A year after winning the program's first national championship, the Princeton field hockey team enters 2013 tabbed No. 3 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll, it was announced Tuesday.
With 883 points and nine first-place votes, the Tigers only trail their two Final Four opponents from a year ago. National runner up North Carolina and semifinalist Maryland were ranked first and second, respectively.
The lone Ivy League representative on the poll, Princeton will face five teams with a preseason ranking this season.
Princeton returns to the pitch with an experienced roster of 18 letterwinners, including eight starters, while welcoming five newcomers. The Tigers will kick off their national title defense on Friday, Sept. 6 versus 10th-ranked Duke at 6 p.m. at Bedford Field.
