Reinprecht, Sharkey and U.S. Field Hockey Headed to Pan Am Semifinals
September 25, 2013 | Field Hockey
After going 3-0 in group play, Katie Reinprecht '13, Kathleen Sharkey '13 and the U.S. Field Hockey National Team have advanced to the semifinals at the 2013 Pan American Cup in Mendoza, Argentina. Team USA is set to play northern rival Canada on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
The U.S. opened the tournament amidst a snow flurry, but came out with a 6-0 shutout victory over Mexico on Sept. 21 behind a pair of Reinprecht insurance goals.
The next day the Americans displayed resilience overcoming early pressure by Chile to earn a 5-1 win. The Chileans struck first, but Sharkey was there five minutes later to knot things up with a rocket from the top of the circle.
In Team USA's final match of the group stage versus Uruguay both Princetonians found the back of the net in its 6-1 victory on Sept. 24. Sharkey put the U.S. up 4-0 with 30 seconds left in the first half and Reinprecht closed out the team's scoring effort by getting the ball in a scrum to add the sixth goal.
