Volleyball Faces Crucial Road Trip In Showdowns Among Ivy League Leaders
October 16, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team just completed a riveting four-match homestand at Dillon Gym, but now it heads north for potentially its biggest weekend of the season. The first-place Tigers (4-1 Ivy) will travel to both Dartmouth and Harvard, both of which stand only one match behind Princeton entering the weekend.

EYE ON THE TIGERS
Both Friday's 5 pm match at Dartmouth (please note that time change, as it was originally a 7 pm start) and Saturday's 5 pm match at Harvard will both be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network (link above). You can also follow both via live stats, and those links can be found in the chart above as well.
THE UPPER HALF
While there are still nine Ivy League matches to be played by all teams this season, both Princeton and each of its opponents this weekend are currently in the top half of the league standings. Both Princeton and Yale share first place in the Ivy League with 4-1 records, while both Dartmouth and Harvard share third place with Columbia with matching 3-2 records.
FIVE ALIVE
Princeton was able to maintain a share of first place thanks to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Brown last Friday in Dillon Gym. The Tigers fought off three match points in the fifth set, and Nicole Kincade scored on back-to-back kills to give Princeton the 21-19 victory in the final set. Six of Princeton's 15 matches this season have gone five sets, and the Tigers are 4-2 in those matches.
POINT IT OUT
Junior opposite Kendall Peterkin, the lone four-time Ivy League Player of the Week this season, continues to rank in the Top 20 nationally in both points and kills this season. She currently ranks 14th in the NCAA with 5.17 points per set, and she ranks 19th in kills with 4.41 per set.
SPLIT DOWN THE MIDDLE
Over the last five years, Princeton is 5-5 on the Dartmouth-Harvard trip. The Tigers have gone 2-3 at Harvard, including a loss last season, and 3-2 at Dartmouth, including wins in each of the last two years. All-Ivy outside Cara Mattaliano carried the Tigers to a thrilling 15-13 fifth-set win at Dartmouth last year with a career-best 21 kills and 18 digs.
BLOCK PARTY
Three of the Ivy League's top four leaders in blocks will compete in these two matches this weekend. Princeton senior Nicole Kincade, who has been named to the Ivy League Honor Roll each of the last two weeks, is second in the league with 1.05 blocks per set. Dartmouth's Lottie Macaulay and Harvard's Caroline Holte are right behind Kincade, as both average 1.02 blocks.
SET THE TABLE
Princeton sophomore Lauren Miller leads the Ivy League with 10.68 assists per set, which is .75 more assists than anybody in the league. An injury kept her out of Friday's victory over Brown, but former All-Ivy setter Ginny Willis came off the bench and recorded 63 assists in the win.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green has been one of the most dominant teams at the net, which has anchored its defense. Dartmouth ranks second in the league in both blocks per set (2.16) and opponent hitting percentage (.176). Offensively, junior Paige Caridi ranks among the Ivy League Top 5 in kills (3.18).
SCOUTING HARVARD
The Crimson has shown impressive relience in five-setters recently, earning both a home win over Yale and a road win at Columbia. Senior Caroline Walters leads the Ivy League with a .394 attack percentage, while former Ivy League Player of the Week Corinne Bain leads the league with .44 aces per set. As a team, Harvard leads the league in both kills (13.44) and hitting percentage (.242).
