PRINCETON VS. BROWN VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
WEEK 9 GAME NOTES (PDF)
Last Time Out
Princeton put the brakes on a five-game losing skid with a decisive 4-0 victory over Brown last Saturday. Allison Evans opened up the scoring at 7:41 with her third goal of the season. Ryan McCarthy added to the cushion with a pair of goals at 32:45 and 36:17 before Evans capped things off in the 41st minute with the Tigers' fourth tally. Princeton finished with a 23-7 shot advantage, with both teams earning four penalty corners. Making her first start of the season, senior goalkeeper Julia Boyle made two saves en route to a shutout.
Within Reach
With a pair of goals against Brown, Allison Evans is now just seven points shy of becoming the ninth player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau. Upping her career mark to 93, she passed Lia Rebane '95 (91) for ninth on the school's scoring list. In four seasons in Orange and Black, Evans has amassed 38 goals and 17 assists. Her combined 55 goals and assists currently rank 10th all-time.
Coming Into Her Own
Joining Allison Evans on this week's Ivy League honor roll, Ryan McCarthy also had a pair of goals against Brown. With five goals and two assists, she is currently tied with Maddie Copeland (6G) and Sydney Kirby (5G, 2A) for the team lead in points with 12. Recording her first career point with an assist against No. 8 Virginia on Sept. 7, she scored her first collegiate goal against No. 4 Penn State on Sept. 12. Also finding the back of the opposing cage against American (9/21) and Yale (9/27), she dished out her second helper of the year against No. 10 Syracuse on Oct. 5.
Stepping Up
Making the most of her first start of the season against Brown, Julia Boyle finished with a pair of saves en route to her first career shutout. Logging 92:16 minutes in two appearances, Boyle has yet to surrender a goal, stopping all six shots she has faced in 2014. In nine career games, the senior tri-captain has played 537:19 minutes, posting a 4-1 record while recording a 1.04 goals-against average and 0.771 save percentage.
In the Hunt
Despite seeing its 22-game conference win streak come to an end with a 3-2 loss to Columbia on Oct. 3, Princeton remains in the hunt for a 23rd Ivy League title. With a 3-1 mark against Ivy opponents, the Tigers are currently tied with Columbia, Cornell and Dartmouth atop the league standings. The Orange and Black shut out Dartmouth on Bedford Field on Sept. 20 and will travel to face Cornell on Nov. 1. The Tigers are 76-5 against the Ivy League under Kristen Holmes-Winn, with its only losses coming to Dartmouth (2004, 2011), Cornell (2007), Penn (2004) and Columbia (2014).
No Rest for the Weary
Princeton has already faced six opponents currently ranked in the NFHCA top-20 poll. Of those six games, two have been decided by just one goal. Other than an 8-1 loss to Maryland, Princeton has held a lead or been within a goal during the second half of every other match-up against a ranked team. Defending NCAA champion No. 5 UConn descends on Bedford Field on Sunday as the Tigers' seventh ranked opponent this season. With a particularly grueling non-conference slate, Princeton's non-Ivy competitors have combined for an impressive 109-38 (0.741) mark.
Closing In
Kristen Holmes-Winn sits just one win shy of her 150th as the head coach of the Princeton field hockey program. Her 149 victories thus far rank second only to Beth Bozman (188) on the school's all-time charts. The Tigers have posted double-digit wins in all but two of her 12 seasons, including a program-record 21 victories during the team's 2012 national championship run. Going 76-5 against the Ivy League, Holmes-Winn has helped guide Princeton to 10 conference titles.
Series History
Princeton owns a 37-5-2 overall record against Harvard. The Tigers won each of the first five meetings between the rivals, taking the inaugural showdown in 1972, 2-0. After battling to a 3-3 tie in 1977, Harvard picked up its first win of the series the following season, 1-0. The Orange and Black captured 11 of the next 12 from 1979-89, before the Crimson posted a 3-1-1 mark from 1990-93. Princeton has responded by emerging victorious in each of the last 20 meetings dating back to 1994.
UConn is 13-8 all-time against Princeton. Winning the first match-up in 1996 (3-1), the Huskies held a slim 3-2 edge over the first five meetings. Princeton strung together three consecutive wins from 2000-02 before dropping each of the next five from 2003-06. Since 2007, UConn is 5-3 against the Tigers, with four of those games decided by just one goal.

Princeton upended Harvard last season in Cambridge, Mass., 3-1. Teresa Benvenuti opened the scoring with a goal at 10:45 before Harvard came up with an equalizer at 15:51. After assisting on the go-ahead tally at 22:00, Cat Caro capped off the scoring with a goal at 43:28. The Tigers finished with a decisive 21-4 shot advantage and an 8-1 edge in penalty corners.

Scouting Harvard
Opening the year with five-straight wins, Harvard is just 3-5 over its last eight. Last weekend, the Crimson scored a big 2-1 victory over Cornell before falling to New Hampshire, 1-0. Catriona McDonald and Noel Painter netted Harvard's goals against the Big Red at 17:29 and 24:00, respectively, while goalie Issy Davies made four saves. With the Crimson managing just two shots against New Hampshire, Davies posted eight saves. Painter currently leads the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists, while Marissa Balleza and Elizabeth Jacobson have 13 points apiece, combining for 11 goals and four helpers. Starting all 13 of the team's games, Davies has posted a 1.47 goals-against average and 0.689 save percentage in 901:48 minutes.
Scouting UConn
After suffering consecutive losses to Stanford (9/26) and North Carolina (9/28), UConn has won five straight heading into this weekend's match-ups against Villanova (10/24) and Princeton (10/26). Charlotte Veitner was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week after posting eight points (2G, 4A) in the Huskies' two wins. Entering this weekend's games, Veitner leads the team in scoring with seven goals and eight assists. Anna Middendorf has 19 points on seven goals and five helpers, while Chloe Hunnable, Roisin Upton, Sophie Bowden and Chrissy Davidson each have 14 points.
