Field Hockey Places Four on Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region Teams

PRINCETON, N.J. – Senior Sydney Kirby of the Princeton University field hockey team added to her growing list of postseason accolades by joining Kate Ferrara, Teresa Benvenuti and Annabeth Donovan on the 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region squads.
Kirby and Ferrara each nabbed a spot on the Mid-Atlantic Region first team, while Benvenuti and Donovan garnered praise on the second team. Last week, Kirby was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year in addition to earning a unanimous selection to the all-conference first team. Ferrara and Donovan received second team All-Ivy recognition.
Capping off a stellar career, Kirby finished second on the squad in points this season, racking up six goals and six assists. Factoring into the scoring in eight of Princeton's games, she twice matched a single-game career-high with two scores against both Virginia (9/7) and Yale (9/27). In her final five collegiate contests, she picked a goal and four helpers to up her career point total to 73 (26G, 21A).
An integral part of Princeton's defensive efforts alongside Donovan and Ferrara, Kirby has also helped the Tigers record three shutouts. In 19 contests, the Princeton backline held opponents to one goal or less in seven outings. Collecting six points (1G, 4A) on the offensive end as a rookie, Donovan dished out four helpers this season. Ferrara also has a pair of assists.
Despite being sidelined for six games, Benvenuti wrapped up her junior campaign tied for third on the team in points with 16 (6G, 4A). Returning from her injury with just one goal and two assists, she finished the year on a tear, amassing five goals and two helpers in her final five outings.
Finding the back of the opposing cage against UConn and Cornell, she had a goal and an assist against Penn in the Tigers' regular season finale. Turning in her best performance of the season against Monmouth in the NCAA play-in game, Benvenuti registered five points on two goals and an helper.
