PRINCETON VS. DUQUESNE HIGHLIGHTS
Opening Weekend
• Princeton opened its 2014-15 season with a pair of road wins over Pittsburgh and Duquesne.
• The Tigers upended the Panthers last Friday (59-43) to improve to 6-2 in season openers under eight-year head coach Courtney Banghart.
• Dispatching of the Dukes, 79-62, the Orange and Black trailed for just 6:55 in its first two contests.
• Buoyed by a strong defensive effort, the Tigers held their first two opponents to just 31.9 percent (38-119) shooting, which included a 14.3 percent (6-42) clip from long distance.
• Netting just 19 first half points on 28.1 percent shooting against Pittsburgh, the Princeton offense came to life after the break, connecting on 52.2 percent (12-23) of its field goals while outscoring the Panthers 40-23 over the final 20 minutes.
• Against Duquesne, Princeton shot nearly 60 percent (15-26) in the first half en route to a 10-point cushion. Hitting eight of their first 12 shots in the second, including 3-of-5 triples, the Tigers led by as much as 22 with 13:40 to play.
Picking Up Where She Left Off
• Michelle Miller garnered Player of the Week honors from both the Ivy League and CollegeSportsMadness.com for her role in the Tigers' two wins.
• Pouring in a career-high 34 points in Princeton's 2013-14 finale against Seton Hall, Miller led the Tigers in scoring in both contests last weekend.
• Scoring all of her game-high 16 points in the second half against Pitt, she also pulled down seven rebounds.
• Netted a game-high 20 points against Duquesne, knocking down 8-of-16 shot attempts, including 4-of-8 threes.
• She averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 31.5 minutes of action.
• Entering the year, Miller sat third all-time in three-point shooting percentage (0.391) after hitting nearly 40 percent of her attempts last season (55-139).
Sharing is Caring
• Princeton's 23 assists on 31 field goals against Duquesne are the most since dishing out 23 helpers against Binghamton on Dec. 11, 2013.
• Annie Tarakchian set a new career-high with six assists against the Dukes.
• Amanda Berntsen's six assists against Duquesne also set a new personal benchmark.
• Last season, Princeton was the Ivy League's highest-scoring team in (75.7ppg), leading the conference pack in field goal percentage (0.474) and assists (16.1) while ranking second in three-point shooting percentage (0.366).
• The Tigers' 2,271 points, 836 field goals and 75.7 ppg scoring average in 2013-14 all set program records.
• The team's 0.474 shooting percentage also set a new school benchmark, along with Princeton's 405 free throws and 484 assists.
Breaking Through
• Amanda Berntsen enjoyed a career day against Duquesne, setting or matching several career highs.
• Berntsen's 14 points tied a personal-best originally set against Navy last season. Her seven made field goals and 10 field goal attempts were also career benchmarks, along with her six assists.
• Through the team's first two games, the junior is averaging 9.0 points and 3.5 assists, connecting on 75.0 percent (9-12) of her shot attempts.
Dialed In
• Blake Dietrick narrowly missed out on a pair of double-doubles last weekend. Hitting 5-of-10 shots and 2-of-3 treys, Dietrick finished with 14 points and nine rebounds against Pittsburgh before turning in an eight-point, eight-rebound effort against Duquesne.
• Dietrick currently ranks 10th all-time on Princeton's career charts in three-pointers made (151). She is one triple shy of tying Lauren Edwards '12 for ninth place.
• Dietrick's 76 treys a year ago were the fourth-highest single-season total in school history.
• Knocking down 39.1 percent of her three-point attempts, the sharp shooting guard is currently tied for third on the Tigers' career ledger with teammate Michelle Miller.
Getting Defensive
• Taylor Williams matched a pair of career-highs on the defensive end against Pittsburgh.
• Williams' five blocks tied a personal best originally set against Columbia on Feb. 22, 2013. She also matched a career-high with two steals.
• Turning in a stellar defensive effort against the Panthers, Princeton held Pitt to just 25.4 percent (16-63) shooting. Connecting on just 22.9 percent (8-35) of their shots in the second half, the Panthers were 0-for-12 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes and just 2-for-24 for the game (8.3 percent).
All-Time Series
• Princeton is 9-1 all-time against Drexel in a series that dates back to 1982-83.
• The Tigers have won each of the last seven meetings against the Dragons, with Drexel's last victory coming in 1984 (55-48).
Last Meeting
• Princeton won last year's showdown against the regional rivals in Philadelphia, 66-59.
• Shooting just 33.3 (9-27) in the first half, Princeton trailed 25-23 at the intermission. The Tiger offense came to life in the second, going 12-for-26 (46.2 percent) from the floor.
• Michelle Miller led all scorers with 23 points on 7-for-12 shooting, which included a 5-for-7 clip from long distance. Miller also added eight rebounds.
• Blake Dietrick had 18 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists, while Alex Wheatley was the only other Tiger in double figures with 10 points and four boards.
Scouting Drexel
• Drexel opened its 2014-15 season with a 62-53 victory over Cornell.
• Sarah Curran led the team with 12 points, while Meghan Creighton and Jamila Thompson each had 11. Thompson's 11 points were a career-high.
• The Dragons shot 37.7 (20-53) from the floor and 26.3 (5-19) from three. Connecting on 41.3 percent (19-46) of its shot attempts, Cornell committed 16 turnovers and hit just 9-of-23 (39.1 percent) free throws.
• Drexel posted a 15-16 overall record in 2013-14, finishing fourth in the CAA with a 9-7 league ledger.
• Rachel Pearson picked up third-team All-CAA honors last season. Scoring in double-digits in 15 appearances a year ago, she was the Dragons' lone selection on the 2014-15 Preseason All-CAA squad.
• Sarah Curran will look to build on a successful freshman campaign in which she earned All-Rookie accolades. She netted all of her team-high 12 points in the first half in the opener against Cornell.
• One of the CAA's best defensive squads, the Dragons surrendered a league-low 55.8 points per game last season. In 2012-13, the Dragons set a program record by holding opponents to just 51.4 points per game.
• Meghan Creighton has started 70 consecutive games since 2012. Last season, she ranked among the CAA's leaders in assists (3.9) and three-point percentage (0.342).
