PRINCETON, N.J. (11/19/14) - The Princeton women's hockey team continues its nine-game homestand as it hosts St. Lawrence and the defending national champion Clarkson this weekend. The Tigers and Saints battle at 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 21 while the Golden Knights come to town on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a 4 p.m., game.
EYE ON THE TIGERSSince dropping the season opener, 2-1 at Penn State, Princeton is unbeaten at 6-0-1. The Tigers are 4-0-1 at home as they continue their nine-game homestand. Two sophomores lead the team offensively. Kelsey Koelzer has 10 points on two goals and a team-high eight assists, while Molly Contini has nine points on a team-best five goals and four helpers. Junior Jaimie McDonell adds seven points, while junior Cristin Shanahan, sophomore Hilary Lloyd and freshmen Kiersten Falck chip in five apiece. All three Princeton goaltenders have seen action in net this year. Junior Kimberly Newell has been the starter however since she arrived on campus and is 5-1-1 this season. She has a .931 save percentage and a 1.68 goals against average, making 162 saves and allowing 12 goals.
PRINCETON/ST. LAWRENCE SERIES
Princeton holds a slight 28-22-3 edge over St. Lawrence in the series. The Saints hold a one-game advantage when playing at Baker, 12-11-2. The Tigers were able to halt a five-game Saints run in the series on Feb. 7, 2014, a 2-1 game at Appleton.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence is 6-5-1 overall and has a couple impressive wins under its belt, including a 5-4 OT win over Harvard and a 5-3 game at Clarkson. The Saints however have been inconsistent and have had trouble on the road with a 1-4 mark when not playing at Appleton. Junior Jenna Marks and freshman Kennedy Marchment sit atop the scoring column with 12 points each has both have scored six goals and six assists. Sophomore Brooke Webster has six tallies and adds four helpers for 10 points. The team's leading scoring defender is senior Amanda Boulier, who had three goals and five assists. Like Princeton, the Saints have tested all three goalies with Carmen MacDonald seeing the most time. In 11 games played she has a 5-4-1 record with a .925 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA.
PRINCETON/CLARKSON SERIES
Princeton is 14-9-2 against Clarkson since the teams first met in 1982. Clarkson has had the better luck as of late, going 5-1-1 in the last seven games. and The series is tied at Hobey Baker Rink, 5-5-1 and the last meeting on Feb. 8, 2014 resulted in a 2-2 tie at Cheel.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
The defending national champion is off to a 9-3-1 start and like Princeton is unbeaten in its last seven games at 6-0-1. Clarkson is 4-0-1 in the ECAC to sit atop the standings. The team has the second-best power play in the country and fifth best penalty kill. Junior Shannon MacAuley is seventh nationally in points per game with 22 on 11 goals and 11 assists. Sophomores Cayley Mercer and Genevieve Bannon add 17 each with Mercer scoring eight goals and Bannon seven. The leading scoring defenseman is also a freshman, Savannah Harmon. She has four goals and seven assists for 11 points. Freshman Shea Tiley has emerged as the starting goaltender. She is 9-3-1 with a 1.18 GAA and a .946 save percentage. She has four shutouts and ranks fifth in both save percentage and GAA nationally.
