Volleyball Trio Claims All-Ivy Honors; Kincade, Peterkin Both Make 1st Team
November 20, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
After helping lead the Princeton women's volleyball team to a third-place finish in the Ivy League, Nicole Kincade, Kendall Peterkin and Brittany Ptak each earned 2014 All-Ivy honors. Both Kincade and Peterkin earned first-team distinction, while Ptak earned honorable mention.
Peterkin was one of three unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selections, along with Harvard's Corinne Bain and Yale's Mollie Rogers. Peterkin, a five-time Player of the Week honoree, led the Ivy League in both kills (4.55) and points (5.21); both totals ranked in the Top 15 nationally, including a 12th-best mark in points.
Peterkin ended her season with 423 kills, eighth-most in program history; she had a 30-kill effort in a four-set win over Penn, and she had nine other matches with at least 20 kills. She was also one of Princeton's defensive leaders (3.68 digs per set), and she had five 20-20 matches during the season.
Kincade had dealt with numerous injuries over her first three seasons, and she was finally able to show her ability during a terrific senior season. She ranked sixth in the Ivy League in hitting percentage, and she needed three more blocks to qualify for the league blocking ranks — where she would have been in the Top 5.
Kincade averaged over 2.6 kills and 3.4 points per set, and she had a streak of 13 double-digit kill performances over 15 matches, most of which came during Ivy League play. Her most memorable showing may have come in a 3-2 comeback win over Brown; Kincade final two swings in a 16-kill match were the final two points in a 21-19 fifth-set win over the Bears.
Ptak, a sophomore middle, ranked fourth in the Ivy League with a .329 attack percentage, and she had several of her strongest performances late in the Ivy League season. She posted 11-kill, zero-error matches in wins over both Columbia and Dartmouth, and she had 12 kills and three blocks in a marathon match with Harvard.
“I'm so proud of Kendall, Nicole and Brittany," head coach Sabrina King said. "They all worked very hard this season. Kendall was the heart of our offense throughout the fall. The team was constantly in awe at her ability to shoulder the pressure of being the go-to hitter this season and her ability to consistently perform at an incredibly high level match after match. Nicole has persevered through injuries to finally show the league her amazing talent. I'm so glad she was able to showcase it in her senior year and also step up as a leader. From day one Brittany came to campus ready to compete, and she stepped in for Tiana without missing a beat. Brittany is a dream to coach and has a bright future."
