Princeton led by eight in the first half but saw Saint Peter's score 11 straight points and go on a 16-3 run bridging halftime to take a lead that the Peacocks wouldn't relinquish Wednesday night in Jersey City. Saint Peter's outshot Princeton 41.2 percent (7-17) to 25 percent (6-24) in the second half and took 28 free throws to eight for Princeton as the Tigers got into early foul trouble after the break. Hans Brase led Princeton with 17 points on the night, but the Peacocks limited him to two points after the break. |

• Princeton and California will meet for the first time in five years, when Princeton came out to Berkeley in November 2009 for a game Cal won 81-60. It will be the fifth meeting in series history but just the second stand-alone game between the two, as two have come in four-team in-season tournament events and another was in the 1997 NCAA Tournament.
• The game will be a homecoming of sorts for sophomore Henry Caruso, a native of San Mateo, Calif., on the other side of the bay from Berkeley. It'll be Caruso's third trip for games in California since he joined the team, including last season's CBI game at Fresno State and the Wooden Legacy two weeks ago in Southern California.
• One of the two head coaches from Princeton's visit to Cal in 2009 will be in the building Saturday, as former Cal head coach Mike Montgomery is doing color commentary on the Pac-12 Network broadcast.
• Princeton will return to the site of that 1997 NCAA Tournament defeat against Cal when the Tigers head to Wake Forest for a Dec. 31 game.
• While neither the players nor the coaches are the same from that 2009 meeting between the Bears and Tigers, Princeton head coach Mitch Henderson '98 and assistant coach Brian Earl '99 played in the 1997 NCAA first-round game against Cal. The pair were Princeton's leading scorers in that game, Henderson with 15 points and Earl with 13, while Randy Duck led Cal with 16 points and Tony Gonzalez, who went on to athletic fame in the NFL, had 13 points.
• Princeton will aim to end a five-game losing streak to Pac-12 schools with Saturday's game. The Tigers are 7-12 all-time against schools in the conference at the time of the game, with three losses to Cal, one to Stanford and one to Arizona State since the upset of UCLA in the 1996 NCAA Tournament.
• Though none of the Cal or Princeton players have faced each other with their current schools, one Cal player has experience against the Tigers. Dwight Tarwater finished his undergraduate career at Cornell last season and is playing a graduate season with the Golden Bears. Tarwater averaged 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in six games against Princeton, not playing against the Tigers as a freshman in 2010-11 and coming off the bench in both games in his sophomore and junior seasons. He started the two games as a senior, but Princeton won the last five against Cornell. For Cal, he has played in all nine games, averaging 3.8 points per game.
• The numbers suggest the Tigers will have a challenge Saturday on both ends, with Cal shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and Princeton allowing 44.8 percent to its opponents. While the Tigers have hit at a 42.6 percent clip from the floor this season, Cal is allowing only a 35.9 percent average. The numbers are similar from beyond the arc, where Cal allows just a 25.5 percent average and hits at a 37.9 percent clip. Princeton is allowing opponents a 44.4 percent rate while hitting at a 37.4 percent clip itself.
• While the Bears play a mix of sophomores, juniors and seniors, the team's four freshmen average just 18.1 minutes per game between them, with Kingsley Okoroh at 11.8 mpg and Brandon Chauca at 24.0 mpg, but with Chauca's 48 minutes coming over only two games. Princeton's five freshmen, four of whom have seen game action, average 34.5 mpg between them, with Amir Bell at 28.1 mpg and accounting for 81.4 percent of the rookies' minutes.
• Princeton is 1-5 when it gets outrebounded this season and 2-2 when it wins the rebounding battle. The lone win was last Saturday against Stony Brook despite a 13-rebound disadvantage, its largest of the seaosn.
• Princeton is coming off its lowest field goal percentage game of the season, shooting 30.8 percent at Saint Peter's. Princeton had shot 45 percent or better from the field in four straight games before that.
• The Saint Peter's game was also a season-low for Princeton in free throw makes and attempts, going 6 of 8. On the season overall, Princeton averages 14 of 19 from the line (.729).
• Princeton has not held an opponent below 40 percent shooting in any of the last six games. The Tigers came close last time out at Saint Peter's, with the Peacocks shooting 40.5 percent.
• The Tigers are 3-3 this season when hitting at least 40 percent of their shots from the field and 0-4 when they don't. Princeton is 3-2 when hitting at least 35 percent from 3-point range and 0-5 when it doesn't.
• Princeton is 0-5 this season when allowing at least a 41 percent clip from 3-point range and 3-2 when holding opponents below 41 percent from long distance.
• While Princeton's rebounding and assists leader is one and the same with Hans Brase (8.1 rpg, 3.3 apg), the same Bear is leading Cal in scoring (19.0 ppg), rebounds (8.8 rpg) and assists (4.7 apg), and that's junior Tyrone Wallace.
• Princeton's top five scorers are non-seniors, with sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, freshman Amir Bell and sophomores Steven Cook and Pete Miller. The last time the Tigers finished the season with no seniors among the top five in scoring was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five.
• The Tigers' youth movement is in full effect. Princeton has started one junior (Hans Brase), three sophomores (Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook) and one freshman (Amir Bell) in each of the last six games. Over the first four games this season, seniors averaged 48.3 minutes per game. In the last six games, the seniors have collectively played no more than 28 minutes.
• Of Princeton's 656 points so far, 580, or 88 percent, have been scored by non-seniors. Princeton's top five scorers on per-game average are non-seniors, and four of those are freshmen or sophomores (Weisz, Cook, Miller, Bell).
• Spencer Weisz is leading the team in scoring at 14.0 ppg. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• Through Wednesday's games, only seven teams in the nation had tried more 3-pointers than Princeton, which has fired up 227 attempts. That was Princeton's highest national statistical ranking, with its 10th-most 3-pointers made (85) close behind.
• Princeton, Youngstown State and Yale (Justin Sears, Javier Duren) were the only schools in the nation with two players in the top 20 in minutes played, through Wednesday's games. Spencer Weisz was seventh in the nation and No. 1 in the Ivy with 358 minutes, and Hans Brase was 19th with 342 minutes.
• Princeton coach Mitch Henderson is presently ninth on the program's all-time wins list, but seventh place isn't far off. He's now at 61 wins, behind predecessor Sydney Johnson (66) and John Thompson III (68). Both are fellow Tiger alumni, Johnson (head coach from 2007-11) in the Class of 1997 and Thompson (head coach from 2000-04) in the Class of 1988.
• In 58 Ivy League seasons, Princeton has posted 52 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• Cal was picked seventh in the Pac-12's preseason media poll.
• The Bears are in their first season under head coach Cuonzo Martin, who came west after leading the program at Tennessee for three seasons. Martin has never faced Princeton at any of his playing or coaching stops.
• The 14-point win over Syracuse on Nov. 20 was a highlight for the Bears, but Cal has had some tight games since. The Bears fell to Texas 71-55 the day after the Syracuse win at the Garden, and though Cal defeated Cal Poly by 20, all four of the team's wins since, against Fresno State, Montana, Nevada and Wyoming, have each come by no more than seven points.
• Cal is coming off back-to-back sub-40 percent shooting games from the field, two of its three total on the season. Cal has hit at a 40 percent clip from 3-point range only once in the last six games.
• Cal has allowed only one team to shoot at least 40 percent from the field this season, and that came against Montana. Only Fresno State (.333) has shot at least 30 percent from distance against Cal this season.
• Cal has been out-assisted only once this season, 10-6 in its lone loss against Texas. Two games ago against Nevada, the Wolf Pack and the Bears were even with 10 assists apiece.
• Cal's Jabari Bird, who had four double-digit scoring games over the first six contests (Cal won all four, was 1-1 in the other two) has missed the last three games. According to an SF Gate report, the 6-6 sophomore guard has a foot injury and was "very doubtful" for the Wyoming game last time out.
• Cal's Stephen Domingo can't play this season due to transfer rules, but he came from a program with a Princeton-alum coach in John Thompson III '88 at Georgetown, where he played the last two seasons.
• Cal's 6-10 senior forward David Kravish has six double-figure games while playing all nine this season, but his highest-scoring game was in Cal's lone loss with 19 points against Texas.
• Jordan Mathews, a 6-3 sophomore guard, scored in double figures in each fo the team's first seven games but hasn't done so in either of the last two. Kingsley Okorah, a 7-1 rookie, did so in each of the first six games but hasn't in three of the last four. Dwight Tarwater, the 6-6 forward who's completing his eligibility at Cal after graduating from Cornell, had 10+ in each of the first two games but hasn't in the last seven.
• Cal's big win over Syracuse coincided with 6-4 sophomore guard Sam Singer's highest assist total of the season, with eight helpers. He's second on the team at 4.2 apg, just behind Tyrone Wallace at 4.7 apg.
• Cal associate head coach Tracy Webster coached against then-assistant coach Mitch Henderson's Northwestern teams in the Big Ten while at Purdue and Illinois. Staffmate Yanni Hufnagel coached four seasons at Harvard from 2009-13, facing off with the Tigers nine times (Princeton won six).
• Aside from a trip to New York for two games in the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden, a trip that included a win over Syracuse before a loss to Texas, the Bears haven't ventured much past the Sierra Nevadas. The team has had road games at Fresno State and Nevada, and the Princeton game is the second in a seven-game home stand that will bridge the end of the non-conference schedule and open the Pac-12 slate.
• Cal ranks in the top 20 in the nation in five statistical categories, through Wednesday's games. The list includes assist-to-turnover ratio (1.49, 15th), defensive rebounds per game (eighth, 29.78), 3-point FG percentage defense (14th, .255), turnovers per game (12th, 10.4), and winning percentage (16th, .889). Tyrone Wallace is in the top 20 individually in three categories, including defensive rebounds per game (12th, 7.22), FG tries (17th, 128), and FG made (13th, 65).
• Cal is 21-5 all-time against the eight Ivy League programs, having faced all except Brown in its history. The last time Cal faced an Ivy program was on Dec. 29, 2012, a 67-62 loss to Harvard in Haas Pavilion.

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his third season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 61-39. Under Henderson, Princeton is 32-9 at home, 28-14 in the Ivy League, and 18-3 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 48-12 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in ninth place on the Princeton all-time wins list, with predecessor Sydney Johnson '97 in eighth with 66 wins over four seasons. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11. |
