PRINCETON VS. BINGHAMTON GAME NOTES
Last Time Out
• Princeton improved to 9-0 on the season with a decisive 85-55 road win over the University of Michigan.
• Receiving seven votes in the most recent USA Today Coaches Top-25 poll, the Wolverines were ranked 11th in the NCAA RPI ratings.
• Shooting a season-high 58.3 percent (35-60) from the floor, Princeton's 85 points are the most the Tigers have scored in 2014-15.
• The team's 11 threes and 25 assists were also season-highs, as was its 57.9 (11-19) 3PT shooting percentage.
• Held almost 20 points below its scoring average, Michigan shot 41.1 percent (23-56) from the field with just two players scoring in double digits.
• The Tigers outrebounded the Wolverines, 35-23. Entering the game, Michigan was ranked second in the Big Ten in rebounding margin.
• For the second time this season, four different Tigers scored in double digits with Michelle Miller, Blake Dietrick, Taylor Williams and Annie Tarakchian each netting at least 10 points.
• Miller led the way with a game-high 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting which included a 5-for-7 showing from behind the arc. Her five threes in the game were the most for any Princeton player this season, while her 10 made field goals tied a season-high for the squad.
• Filling up the stat sheet, Dietrick finished with 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting with nine rebounds, eight assists, three steals and no turnovers in 35 minutes. Dietrick's 72.7 shooting percentage is the highest for any Tiger this year, as were her eight assists.
• Tarakchian and Williams chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while combining for nine rebounds.
Bracket Busters
• Princeton is 3-0 in games against ACC and Big Ten opponents this season.
• The Tigers defeated Pittsburgh from the ACC in the season opener (59-43) before downing fellow conference member Wake Forest at the Cancun Challenge, 72-55. Most recently, the Tigers handed Michigan just its second loss of the season with an 85-55 triumph in Ann Arbor.
• With a +21.0 scoring margin against opponents from Power 5 conferences, Princeton is averaging 72.0 points per game while shooting 49.7 percent (79-159) from the floor and 46.3 percent (19-41) from three-point range.
• In those three games, Pitt, Wake Forest and Michigan averaged just 51.0 ppg, shooting 33.3 percent (55-165) from the field and 29.6 percent (16-54) from long distance.
• Forcing 19.0 turnovers per game in those outings, Princeton has held a +6.0 rebounding edge.
• Rising to the level of competition, Blake Dietrick averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in those appearances while shooting 53.3 percent (16-30) from the field and 60.0 percent (9-15) from three.
• Michelle Miller averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in those contests, shooting 45.5 percent (15-33) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-13) from behind the arc.
Rolling Along
• Princeton carries a +20.8 scoring margin into Saturday's showdown against Binghamton.
• The Tigers have held a lead of at least 20 points in all but one of their contests this season.
• The largest deficit Princeton has faced this year has been seven points. The Tigers trailed Drexel in their home opener by that margin midway through the first half before closing out the frame on a 24-9 run.
• Over its last four games, the Orange and Black have been especially dominant, having held a lead of at least 30 points in each of those outings.
• With a +28.5 scoring margin over its last four games, Princeton is averaging 80.2 points while shooting nearly 50 percent (.483) from the field and over 40 percent (.419) from three.
• Four different Tigers are averaging double figures during the last four games, led by Blake Dietrick (17.8 ppg). Annie Tarakchian has averaged 13.0 points, while Michelle Miller and Alex Wheatley have averaged 11.5 and 10.3 points.
• In those four games against Montana, Charlotte, Georgetown and Michigan, Princeton held a +11.3 rebounding edge. Tarakchian has led the team in rebounds during the stretch with 9.3 per game.
• The Tigers are averaging 17.3 assists over their last four contests, led by Dietrick's 5.3 helpers per game.
Home Sweet Home
• Princeton returns to Jadwin on Saturday after playing seven of its first nine contests away from its home floor.
• The Tigers upended Drexel in their home opener (59-43) before making quick work of Georgetown, 83-54.
• Holding Drexel and Georgetown to 48.5 points per game in its first two games in Jadwin, Princeton has limited the opposition to 34.2 percent (38-111) shooting and a paltry 17.6 percent (6-34) showing from behind the arc.
• The Orange and Black have a +15.5 rebounding margin on its home floor while helping to force 19.5 turnovers.
• Alex Wheatley has averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, while shooting 63.6 percent (14-22) from the field.
• Blake Dietrick is averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game at home, while Annie Tarakchian is averaging 10.0 boards per game.
• Princeton's senior class carries a 35-5 (.875) home record into Saturday. Under eight-year head coach Courtney Banghart, the Tigers are 107-20 (.843) at Jadwin.
Climbing the Charts
• Off to the best start in Ivy League history at 9-0, Princeton received votes in the Associated Press Top-25 poll for the second straight week.
• Earning seven votes, the Tigers are currently tied for 30th nationally. In 2011-12, Princeton was the first Ivy League team to ever earn a national ranking finishing 24th in the final AP Top-25 poll.
• The Orange and Black are ninth in the country in the latest NCAA RPI Rankings, while sitting sixth in the Jeff Sagarin/CBN Women's Basketball Rating.
• With 685 points and two first-place votes, Princeton is third in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll, trailing only James Madison and Green Bay.
• Statistically, Princeton is eighth in the nation in scoring defense (51.8 ppg), 26th in field goal percentage defense (34.0) and 28th in rebounding margin (+9.7).
• The Tigers are 10th in three-point field goal percentage (40.4), 18th in the country in scoring margin (+20.8) and 21st in field goal percentage (46.6).
• Princeton is one of just 15 Division I programs in the nation that remain undefeated.
• With a win on Saturday the Tigers would post the best start in school history - men's or women's. The 9-0 start already stands as an Ivy League women's basketball record. The men's basketball team twice started 9-0 in 1919-20 and 1914-15.
Around the Ivy
• Arguably the league's most potent offense, Princeton currently leads the Ivy in scoring (72.6), FG percentage (46.6) and 3PT percentage (40.4) and is tied for first in assists (16.0).
• The Tigers lead the conference in rebounding margin (+9.7) and are second in steals (8.6) and blocks (4.4).
• Princeton also tops the league in scoring defense (51.8) and opponent three-point percentage (26.1) and is second in opponent field goal percentage (34.0).
• Blake Dietrick currently leads the conference pack in assists per game (5.0) while sitting second in three-point shooting (47.9), tied for second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1), and sixth in points per game (14.8).
• The reigning Ivy Player of the Week, Dietrick followed up a 26-point, six-assist effort against Georgetown with 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists with no turnovers against Michigan. Already a two-time Ivy Player of the Week honoree, Dietrick has helped Princeton lay claim to each of the first four conference POTW laurels.
• Annie Tarakchian tops the Ivy in three-point percentage (48.4), is third in free throw percentage (84.0), and fourth in rebounding (8.6).
• Michelle Miller is ranked seventh in three-point percentage (41.3) and 13th in points per game (11.8).
• Alex Wheatley leads the conference in field goal percentage (55.3) and is tied for second in blocks (1.3 bpg).
• Taylor Williams is tied for fifth in the conference in blocks per game (1.1). Williams matched a career-high by swatting five shots against Pittsburgh on Nov. 14.
All-Time Series
• This Saturday's showdown will be just the second meeting between Princeton and Binghamton.
• The Tigers won the inaugural meeting on Dec. 11, 2013 by a score of 75-49.
Last Meeting
• Princeton cruised to a 75-49 win in the first-ever meeting between the two programs last season.
• Finishing with a decisive 42-28 rebounding edge, the Tigers helped force 16 Bearcat turnovers, while limiting Binghamton to a 35.4 shooting percentage (17-48).
• Princeton connected on 48.4 percent (31-64) of its shot attempts, which included a 40.7 percent (11-27) showing from long distance.
• Blake Dietrick led all scorers with 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting. Also pulling down six rebounds, she dished out four assists in 33 minutes of action.
• Michelle Miller was the only other Tiger to score in double digits with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting.
Scouting Binghamton
• Binghamton carries a seven-game losing streak into this Saturday's showdown in Jadwin, having gone winless since a 90-84 triumph over Delaware State on Nov. 15.
• Earlier this week, the Bearcats dropped a pair of road games to Colgate (74-55) and Canisius (91-75).
• Averaging 60.6 points per game, Binghamton is shooting just 38.7 percent (188-486) from the field and 30.1 percent (62-206) from three.
• Getting outrebounded by a 9.8 margin, the Bearcats are committing 15.2 turnovers per outing while averaging just 11.4 assists per contest.
• Three Bearcat players are averaging double figures, led by Imani Watkins' 16.6 points per game.
• Jasmine Sina and Sherae Swinson are averaging 14.3 and 11.8 ppg, respectively.
• Swinson currently leads the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg), while Sina and Watkins are averaging 4.2 and 3.9 assists per outing, respectively.
• Sina is coming off a career-high 24-point effort against Canisius. Watkins also set a personal-best in the game with 22 points.
• Watkins and Sina have combined for three America East Rookie of the Week awards this season. Watkins garnered praise on Nov. 17 and Nov. 24, while Sina earned recognition on Dec. 1.
