Princeton used a 23-4 run over a span of nearly eight minutes in the second half to turn a nine-point deficit into a 10-point lead and beat Stony Brook by 13 Saturday evening in Jadwin Gym. Steven Cook's 28 points were the most for any Tiger all season, and Princeton found some defensive success that had proved elusive so far on the young campaign. Princeton held SBU to 5 of 17 (.294) shooting from 3-point range on the night, including 1 of 10 in the second half. The Tigers also dialed back SBU's field goal clip overall from 62.5 percent in the first half to just 30 percent after the break. The win came despite Princeton being outrebounded 37-24 with SBU's reigning America East Player of the Year Jameel Warney as one of two Seawolves with a double-double. |

• Princeton's only meeting with Saint Peter's came 36 years ago in Jadwin Gym, a game Princeton won 57-36. The Tigers are trying to run their win streak against MAAC foes to three games, as the Tigers have won the last two against Rider after losing at Siena on Dec. 22, 2011.
• Steven Cook's 28 points Saturday against Stony Brook were the most for any Tiger this year and the most since Will Barrett had 28 against Dartmouth last season. Through Monday's games, the 28 points were the second-most for any Ivy Leaguer this season, behind 31 points from Penn's Tony Hicks against Delaware State on Nov. 15. His seven steals were the most for a Tiger since Marcus Schroeder '10 had seven against Wagner in 2009 and one off the Princeton record.
• Princeton entered the Stony Brook game 345th of 345 in Division I in the NCAA's statkeeping at a then .467 clip allowed behind the 3-point line. The Tigers did much better Saturday, allowing just a .294 clip against Stony Brook, the lowest percentage Princeton has allowed on the season.
• In Saturday's game, Princeton had 14 steals and forced 23 Stony Brook turnovers, the most steals for a Tiger team since getting 14 against Wagner in 2012 and the most turnovers since getting 25 against Goucher in 2010. Princeton forced 27 turnovers against Wagner earlier in that 2009-10 season.
• Princeton's top five scorers are non-seniors, with sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, freshman Amir Bell and sophomores Steven Cook and Pete Miller. The last time the Tigers finished the season with no seniors among the top five in scoring was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five. That team also had just two wins going into Dec. 6, standing at 2-4. On that date, however, the Tigers defeated Lafayette, beginning a run that saw Princeton win 12 of 13 and 18 of 22 to close the regular season. Three three-point defeats, including two to league champ Cornell and one to Brown, kept Princeton from an Ivy title, but the Tigers did win two games in the CBI and won the Ivy title the next season.
• Princeton has turned slow starts into winning Ivy seasons before. Six times in the Ivy era, before this year, Princeton has won no more than two of its first eight games, and in four of those six years (1960, 1980, 2006, 2009), the Tigers were able to have a winning Ivy season, going 11-3 the first two times, 10-4 in 2006 and 8-6 in 2009.
• During Mitch Henderson's tenure, the team has been able to jumpstart seasons after a slow beginning. Princeton started 1-5 in Henderson's first year of 2011-12, going 18-6 for the rest of the regular season to finish 10-4 in conference will all four Ivy losses on the road. Princeton was 3-6 in 2012-13 before winning 13 of its next 16.
• The Tigers' youth movement is in full effect. Princeton has started one junior (Hans Brase), three sophomores (Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook) and one freshman (Amir Bell) in each of the last five games. Over the first four games this season, seniors averaged 48.3 minutes per game. In the last five games, the seniors have averaged 19.2 mpg, playing 15, 10, 16, 28 and 27 minutes.
• Of Princeton's 610 points so far, 537, or 88 percent, have been scored by non-seniors. Princeton's top five scorers on per-game average are non-seniors, and four of those are freshmen or sophomores (Weisz, Cook, Miller, Bell).
• Spencer Weisz is leading the team at 14.9 ppg. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• Entering Monday's games, Weisz was 14th in the nation in total minutes (332) and Hans Brase was 20th in total rebounds (79) and in defensive rebounds per game (6.9), Princeton's highest individual rankings. Princeton's 77 3-pointers were 14th in the nation.
• Princeton is shooting an even 50 percent (98 of 196) from the field over the last four games after shooting 39.3 percent (99 of 252) over the first five games.
• Princeton is also shooting the ball better recently from 3-point range than it had early on, making 33 of 71 (.465) tries over the last three games after hitting at a 33.8 percent clip (44 of 130) over the first six games. The team averaged 11.5 assists per game over the first six contests and has averaged 18.3 over the last three.
• Princeton coach Mitch Henderson is presently ninth on the program's all-time wins list, but seventh place isn't far off. He's now at 61 wins, behind predecessor Sydney Johnson (66) and John Thompson III (68). Both are fellow Tiger alumni, Johnson (head coach from 2007-11) in the Class of 1997 and Thompson (head coach from 2000-04) in the Class of 1988.
• In 58 Ivy League seasons, Princeton has posted 52 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• Saint Peter's last made the NCAA Tournament the last time Princeton did, in 2011. While the Tigers took Kentucky to the wire in Tampa, losing 59-57, the Peacocks were in Chicago for a 65-43 loss to Purdue. Saint Peter's and Princeton are the last two New Jersey teams to make the big dance.
• Saint Peter's was picked fourth in the MAAC preseason coaches poll.
• Though four Peacocks have started all nine games (Trevis Wyche, Tyler Gaskins, Quadir Welton and Marvin Dominique), four players have occupied the fifth starting spot as senior Desi Washington injured his wrist in the first game against Brown. According to a Big Apple Buckets report, Washington could return Wednesday against the Tigers. He was the team's second-leading scorer last season at 13.5 ppg, behind fellow returner Marvin Dominique (16.6 ppg).
• SPU's top three scorers return from last season's 14-17 team, led by Dominique, Washington and Trevis Wyche.
• Princeton could have a height advantage against Saint Peter's, which does not have a player taller than 6-8 (Quadir Welton, Elias Desport). Princeton regularly uses three players 6-8 or taller, including Hans Brase (6-8), Pete Miller (6-10) and Alec Brennan (6-11). Amir Bell (6-3) is the shortest starting Tiger, while SPU's Desi Washington checks in at 6-2 and Trevis Wyche at 6-1.
• The Peacocks lost their first four games of the season but have won three of the last five, first with an 18-point win over Rutgers in Brooklyn. One of the recent losses was to Norfolk State, Princeton's Jan. 6 opponent, 60-58.
• Saint Peter's will play six of the other seven Division I schools in New Jersey this season, with Monmouth and Rider in conference play and Fairleigh Dickinson, Rutgers, Princeton and Seton Hall in non-conference play. SPU is 1-0 so far this season against fellow Garden Staters with the win over Rutgers.
• One of Saint Peter's former coaches is the late Bob Dukiet, who led the program from 1979-86, came from Princeton, where he was an assistant coach to Pete Carril since 1972, to take the lead role in Jersey City. The current coach John Dunne, is in his ninth season leading the team.
• Marvin Dominique was a first-team preseason All-MAAC pick and Desi Washington was a second-team preseason all-league choice this year. Dominique was a third-team all-league pick at the end of last season.
• While most of Princeton's minutes have gone to non-seniors this season, 55.3 percent of Saint Peter's have, led by Marvin Dominique (34.7 mpg), Desi Washington (29.0 mpg) and Tyler Gaskins (24.8 mpg).
• Saint Peter's top statistical ranking in the nation is 37th in total 3-pointers (67), through Sunday's games. Marvin Dominique was 11th in the nation with 83 total rebounds, which led the MAAC. Dominique was also tops in the MAAC with 312 total minutes.
• Though the Tigers have been shooting better of late, that figures to face a challenge against Saint Peter's, which has (through Sunday's games) the best FG percentage defense in the MAAC (.400) and the best scoring defense in the league (58.7 ppg).

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his third season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 61-38. Under Henderson, Princeton is 32-9 at home, 28-14 in the Ivy League, and 18-3 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 48-12 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in ninth place on the Princeton all-time wins list, with predecessor Sydney Johnson '97 in eighth with 66 wins over four seasons. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11. |
