PRINCETON VS. MICHIGAN GAME NOTES (PDF)
Last Time Out
• Princeton improved to 8-0 on the season with a decisive 83-54 victory over Georgetown last Saturday.
• The Tigers connected on 40.9 percent (27-66) of their shot attempts, including 5-of-18 threes (27.8 percent).
• Princeton's 83 points were the most the Tigers have scored this season. The Orange and Black's 24 free throws and 35 attempts from the charity stripe were also season highs, along with its 52 rebounds.
• The Tigers' 16 assists and 11 steals were the second-highest totals for the squad this season.
• Up by just five points at the half, Princeton opened the second period on a 9-2 run before outscoring the Hoyas 24-5 over the final 8:38.
• Shooting 43.3 percent (13-30) in the first half, Georgetown connected on just seven of its 28 field goal attempts (25.0 percent) in the final 20 minutes, which included a 0-for-7 showing from long distance.
• Princeton's reserves outscored their Georgetown counterparts, 26-6.
• The Tigers finished with a 52-35 rebounding edge. Outscoring the Hoyas 38-28 in the paint, the Orange and Black had a 15-11 advantage in second chance points.
• Blake Dietrick netted a game-high 26 points on 10-for-18 shooting. Also dishing out six assists, she fell just two points shy of matching her career-high of 28 set against Yale on Feb. 15, 2014.
• Alex Wheatley was 8-for-12 from the floor, tallying 17 points and eight rebounds.
• Annie Tarakchian narrowly missed out on posting her third double-double of the season with eight points and nine rebounds.
Weekly Honors
• Coming off her performance against Georgetown, Blake Dietrick was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness Ivy Player of the Week.
• This is Dietrick's second Ivy Player of the Week accolade of the season. She also garnered Co-Player of the Week praise on Nov. 24 after averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists in a pair of wins over Drexel and American.
• Princeton has laid claim to the conference's top weekly honor in each of the first four weeks of the season. Michelle Miller earned the first POTW award on Nov. 17 followed by Dietrick (Nov. 24) and Annie Tarakchian (Dec. 1). In 2010-11, the Tigers also captured the league's first four Player of the Week laurels.
• Dietrick is the second Princeton player to be recognized by CollegeSportsMadness.com. Miller was named the site's Ivy Player of the Week on Nov. 17 after averaging 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a pair of victories over Pitt and Duquesne.
Leading by Example
• Serving as one of the team's co-captains this season, Blake Dietrick currently leads the squad in points (13.9) and assists (4.6) per game.
• Second on the Tigers in three-point shooting percentage (44.2), her four triples against Montana were tied for the most for any Tiger this season.
• Dietrick's career 39.5 three-point percentage currently ranks third all-time.
• Third on the team in rebounds per game (5.1), she has twice led Princeton in rebounding and points. Dietrick has also paced the Tigers in assists five times.
• Her 26 points and 10 field goals against Georgetown were the most for any Princeton player this season.
Climbing the Charts
• Off to the best start in Ivy League history at 8-0, Princeton received votes in the Associated Press Top-25 poll for the second straight week.
• Earning seven votes, the Tigers are currently tied for 30th nationally. In 2011-12, Princeton was the first Ivy League team to ever earn a national ranking finishing 24th in the final AP Top-25 poll.
• The Orange and Black are 14th in the country in the latest NCAA RPI Rankings, while sitting 17th in the Jeff Sagarin/CBN Women's Basketball Rating.
• With 685 points and two first-place votes, Princeton is third in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll, trailing only James Madison and Green Bay.
• Statistically, Princeton is eighth in the nation in scoring defense (51.4 ppg), 16th in field goal percentage defense (33.1) and 31st in rebounding margin (+9.4).
• The Tigers are 24th in the country in scoring margin (+19.6), 30th in three-point defense (25.0), and 33rd in three-point field goal percentage (37.8).
Around the Ivy
• Princeton currently leads the Ivy in scoring offense (71.0), FG percentage (45.0) and 3PT percentage (37.8) and is second in assists per game (14.9).
• The Tigers lead the conference in rebounding margin (+9.4) and are second in steals (8.6) and blocks (4.4).
• Princeton also tops the league in scoring defense (51.4), opponent field goal percentage (33.1) and opponent three-point percentage (25.0).
• Blake Dietrick currently leads the conference pack in assists per game (4.6) while sitting third in three-point shooting (44.2), tied for fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8), and eighth in points per game (13.9).
• Annie Tarakchian is second in the Ivy in three-point percentage (48.1), third in free throw percentage (84.0), and fourth in rebounding (8.9).
• Amanda Berntsen is tied for eighth in steals (1.6 spg).
• Alex Wheatley leads the conference in field goal percentage (55.6) and is tied for third in blocks (1.2 bpg). Her 54.9 career FG percentage ranks second on the program's all-time charts.
• Taylor Williams is tied for fifth in the conference in blocks per game (1.1). Williams matched a career-high by swatting five shots against Pittsburgh on Nov. 14.
Road Warriors
• Princeton has opened the 2014-15 season with a 6-0 mark away from Jadwin Gymnasium.
• In those six contests, the Orange and Black are averaging 71.0 points per game, shooting 46.8 percent (152-325) from the floor and 42.1 percent (82-121) from three.
• Averaging 52.3 points per game, opponents are shooting just 32.7 percent (106-324) from the field and 27.2 (31-114) from long distance.
• Princeton has a +6.3 rebounding edge away from Jadwin.
• Dating back to last season, the Tigers are 14-6 on the road and 4-0 in neutral site games.
All-time Series
• This Tuesday's showdown will be just the second meeting between Princeton and Michigan.
• The Wolverines won the inaugural meeting on Dec. 19, 1997 by a score of 61-58.
Scouting Michigan
• Winners of four straight, Michigan carries a 6-1 overall record into Tuesday night's match-up.
• The Wolverines' current win streak is the longest since winning four-in-a-row from Dec. 20, 2013 to Jan. 9, 2014.
• Michigan's 6-1 start is the best under three-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico. The Wolverines are currently ranked 11th in the latest NCAA RPI Rankings.
• The Maize and Blue are 4-0 at the Crisler Center this season. Averaging 75.2 points in those contests, Michigan has shot 47.3 percent on its home floor.
• Averaging just 58.5 points per game, visiting teams have shot just 38.7 percent at Crisler, while committing 17.8 turnovers per outing.
• Michigan and Princeton share a pair of common opponents in Pittsburgh and Wake Forest. Earlier this season, the Wolverines fell to Pitt, 85-64. In its last outing on Dec. 3, Michigan upended the Demon Deacons, 83-69.
• Shooting 49.2 percent (31-63) from the floor and 41.7 percent (5-12) from three, the Wolverines' netted a season-high 83 points against Wake Forest.
• Senior Shannon Smith was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll after posting 26 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, six steals and three steals against Wake Forest.
• Alongside Smith (13.9 ppg), Michigan has three other players with scoring averages in double figures: Katelynn Flaherty (14.9), Cyesha Goree (12.4) and Siera Thompson (11.9).
• Thompson is shooting a Big Ten-best 95.7 (22-23) percent from the free throw line while Flaherty is seventh in three-point field goal percentage (44.2)
• Goree currently leads the team and sits fourth in the conference in rebounding with 10.4 boards per game, while Smith is averaging a team-high 4.9 assists per contest. Goree's 52.9 field goal percentage is eighth in the league.
• Michigan tops the Big Ten in free throw percentage (78.2) and three-point percentage (42.7).
• The Wolverines' are second in rebounding margin (+9.7), while their 45.3 field goal percentage ranks fifth.
