PRINCETON, N.J. (4/15/14) – Princeton earned two victories on Day 1 of the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 18 at Weaver Stadium.
Freshman Chris Cook started the day off with a win in the shot put. He threw 17.33 (56-10.25), one of just three throwers to throw behind 17 meters. Another to do so was senior captain Scott Rushton. Rushton took third in the event with a throw of 17.01 (55-9.75).
The finish line of the 5k was nearly all orange as the Tigers went 1-3-4 in the race. Senior Tyler Udland won the event with a PR of 13:58.62. Senior Alejandro Arroyo Yamin was third with a PR of 13:59.21 and classmate Chris Bendtsen took fourth at 14:01.28.
Princeton connections highlighted the 1500 elite race. Robby Andrews, who was an assistant coach with the Tigers last year, won the race as a member of adidas/NJ-NY Track Club. He posted a 3:42.54. Princeton's Donn Cabral, the 2012 NCAA champion in the steeplechase was fifth at 3:43.59, running on behalf of Nike. Princeton freshman William Paulson was just two places back with a PR of 3:44.15 for seventh place. He had the third-best collegiate time in the event.
Results of pole vault are unknown.
The meet continues tomorrow at 11 a.m., tomorrow with the men's javelin.
