Curham and Ratcliffe Punch Tickets to Eugene on Day 1 of NCAA Regional

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (5/29/14) - Freshman Megan Curham and sophomore Julia Ratcliffe are headed to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., as the pair qualified on Day 1 of the NCAA East Regional.
Curham capped off the first day at the University of North Florida with a fourth-place finish in the 10k with a time of 33:25.12. It marked the second time this season she has ran a sub-33:30, which had been a school record for a decade. Curham ran a Princeton record 33:24.79 at Heps just a few weeks ago. The final is slated for June 12.
Ratcliffe's day hit a snag when there was a lightning delay in the middle of the hammer throw. It didn't bother the nation's leader at all, as her first throw was the longest throw of the day. Ratcliffe claimed the title of East Regional champion with a 67.51 (221-6). Her other attempts reached 65.56, 63.22, 62.73, 65.90 and one foul. The next best throw of the competition was 65.88 (216-2). The final will be conducted on June 11.
Junior Kim Mackay was eighth in heat 4 of the 800. She clocked 2:08.52 to finish 41st overall.
In the 400 hurdles, sophomore Megan McMullin was sixth in heat 4 at 1:01.86. She finished 44th overall in her first NCAA Regional.
Competing tomorrow is freshman Lizzie Bird in the steeplechase at 9:30 p.m.
