Princeton Men's Track & Field Wins Six Events at Tiger Open

PRINCETON, N.J. – After a two-week break for exams, the Princeton University men's track & field team returned to action, winning six events at the 2015 Tiger Open.
Christopher Cook claimed victory in the shot put with a toss of 18.00m (59-00.75). Setting a new personal record on his fourth attempt, he bested his previous benchmark of 17.88m set at the New Years Invitational on Dec. 7, 2014. Mitchel Charles took second at 17.14m (56-03.00).
Greg Leeper finished first in the long jump with a leap of 7.03m (23-00.75), while Lane Russell was tied for third at 6.72m (22-00.75). Nana Owusu-Nyantekyi came in first in the triple jump with a mark of 15.34m (50-04.00).
Princeton claimed the top three slots in the 60m dash, led by John Hill with a time of 6.87. Runner-up Carrington Akosa clocked in at 6.89, followed by teammate Dré Nelson at 6.96. Akosa also won the 200m dash with a time of 22.24, while Brent Albertson finished third (22.59).
Securing the victory in the 4x400m relay, Bryant Switzer, Akosa, Leeper, and Ray Mennin crossed the finish line in 3:22.77. Coppin State's 'B' squad was second at 3:24.38, while Princeton's 'B' team of Maxwell Schwegman, Josh Freeman, Spencer Long, and Travis McHugh were fifth with a time of 3:25.48.
Jake Taylor was sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 16:46m (54-00.00), while Vic Youn placed seventh at 16.13m (52-11.00). Jake Scinto posted a top-five showing in the high jump at 2.04m (6-08.25). Ben Gaylord and August Kiles recorded two of the top three marks in the pole vault, clearing 4.90m (16-00.75) and 4.80m (15-09.00), respectively.
Four Tigers were in the top seven of the 400m dash, led by Mennin, who placed fourth with a time of 50.36. Leeper came in fifth (51.26), with Switzer (51.42) and Brennan O'Connor (51.57) coming in sixth and seventh.
Freeman was second in the 500m run, finishing four one hundredths of a second behind Penn's Storm Dublirer with a time 1:07.35. Jordan Myers was sixth at 1:07.88.
Princeton will next compete at the Armory Invitational in New York, N.Y. on Jan. 30-31.
