Princeton was outshot from the field and outrebounded by Norfolk State Tuesday night in Jadwin Gym, but the Tigers led for all but 3:13 in its final pre-conference game. Princeton made nine 3-pointers to two for Norfolk State and, though the Tigers were 69 percent from the line, Princeton capitalized on NSU going 11 of 24 (.458) from the stripe. Spencer Weisz led Princeton with 19 points, his most since Nov. 22, and Henry Caruso (14) and Clay Wilson (13) were also in double figures for the Tigers. |

• Princeton's rivalries with Penn, Columbia and Yale are the most played in Princeton's history. This will be the 231st meeting between the Tigers and Quakers, and Princeton has faced Yale 230 times as well and Columbia 231.
• Princeton has won five in a row against Penn in Jadwin Gym. The Tigers will try to win six straight at home against Penn for the first time since winning 13 in a row from 1957-69.
• Penn coach Jerome Allen and Princeton coach Mitch Henderson '98 are two of the three Ivy men's basketball head coaches who are coaching their alma mater, along with Brown's Mike Martin. Allen and Henderson overlapped on the court just one year, Henderson's first and Allen's last, in 1994-95. Allen's team got both meetings that year, 69-50 in Philadelphia and 69-57 in Princeton, but Henderson has won four of their six meetings as head coaches.
• The change in year has been a positive change for the Tigers during Mitch Henderson's tenure. In the pre-New Year portion of Henderson's four seasons, the Tigers have a record of 27-25 for a .519 winning percentage. From New Year's Day forward, the Tigers under Henderson are 37-16 with a .698 winning percentage. The win over Norfolk State Tuesday marked the seventh straight time in which Princeton won its first game of a calendar year.
• The last time the teams played, on March 11 in Jadwin, Princeton won 70-65. The teams will look very different than 10 months ago, as Princeton returns 46 of those points, with the biggest share of those lost belonging to T.J. Bray '14 and his 18 points, and Penn returns just 20 of its 65. Fran Dougherty had 20 and Miles Jackson-Cartwright had 12, with Darien Nelson-Henry's 18 accounting for all but two of the returning points.
• From the Ivy-opening meeting one year ago at The Palestra, Penn returns 41 of its 77 points, with Nelson-Henry having scored 17 and Tony Hicks 18. Princeton returns 30 of its 74 points from that defeat, losing 15 from Will Barrett '14, 19 from T.J. Bray '14, and 10 from Denton Koon. Hans Brase, who had 14, is back, as is Spencer Weisz, who had 10.
• Penn outshot Princeton from the field in both games last year, but rebounding was perhaps the biggest key to Princeton getting a different result in March from January's loss. In Philadelphia, Penn won the rebounding battle 42-25, with Fran Dougherty getting a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards and Darien Nelson-Henry nearly joining him at 17 points and eight boards. In Princeton, Dougherty and Nelson-Henry had 12 boards between them (Dougherty had nine), and the Tigers won the battle on the boards 34-30. T.J. Bray '14 led Princeton with seven rebounds, though eight players, five of them back, contributed to the total.
• The defensive end will be critical for Princeton's chances against Penn, as the Quakers are the top shooting team in the Ivy at .456 (entering Thursday's games) and Princeton was eighth in FG% defense at .441. That said, Princeton has been better defensively the last several games. Over the team's first nine games, opponents shot .452 from the field, and over the last six games, opponents have had a .424 clip from the field.
• Princeton led the Ivy entering Thursday's games in 3-point field goal percentage at .376, while Penn was seventh in 3-point field goal percentage defense at .338. The Tigers were eighth in 3FG% defense (.395), but the Quakers were seventh in 3FG% at .338.
• Princeton's starting lineup the last 11 games has included one junior (Hans Brase), three sophomores (Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook) and one freshman (Amir Bell). Penn has been consistent with its starters, with the lineup of Tony Hicks, Darien Nelson-Henry, Matt Howard, Greg Louis and Darnell Foreman accounting for 49 of the 50 starts. Only one senior, Louis, has started a game this season for Penn, with the 6-7 forward having started all 10 Quaker contests.
• Princeton is 6-4 when scoring 28 points by halftime and 0-5 when it does not. The Tigers are 4-1 when scoring at least 69 points and 2-8 when they do not. The Tigers are 6-3 when holding opponents below 67 points but 0-6 when foes reach 67.
• Princeton is 6-3 when holding opponents below 41 percent from 3-point range and 0-6 when opponents make at least 41 percent of their 3-point tries.
• The Tigers are 5-1 when getting at least 13 turnovers from opponents and 1-9 when opponents turn the ball over fewer than 13 times.
• Princeton has made at least 10 3-pointers in five of the last eight games after doing so in only one of the first seven games.
• Through Wednesday's games, Princeton ranked 10th in Division I in total 3-pointers made (136), 12th in 3s per game (9.1), and 13th in total 3s tried (362). Princeton's next-highest ranking was 59th in 3-point FG percentage (.376).
• Through Wednesday's games, Princeton led the Ivy in 3s attempted (362), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.14), 3s made per game (9.1), 3FG% (.376), 3s made (136) and turnover margin (+0.9). Individually, Hans Brase led the Ivy in 3s tried (95) and total rebounds (116), while Spencer Weisz led the Ivy in minutes played (520).
• Princeton has been outrebounded in seven straight games and hasn't been outrebounded in more than seven straight games since an eight-game stretch in Nov./Dec. 2007. The Tigers will look to break that skid against a Penn team that has outrebounded its opponents by 3.0 rpg this season.
• Princeton's top five scorers are non-seniors, with sophomore Spencer Weisz, junior Hans Brase, freshman Amir Bell and sophomores Steven Cook and Pete Miller. The last time the Tigers finished the season with no seniors among the top five in scoring was 2009-10, when sophomore Douglas Davis, junior Dan Mavraides, freshman Ian Hummer, junior Kareem Maddox and sophomore Patrick Saunders were in the top five.
• Princeton has started one junior (Hans Brase), three sophomores (Pete Miller, Spencer Weisz, Steven Cook) and one freshman (Amir Bell) in each of the last 11 games. Over the first four games this season, seniors averaged 48.3 minutes per game. In the last 10 games, the seniors have collectively played no more than 36 minutes in a contest.
• Of Princeton's 992 points so far, 864, or 87 percent, have been scored by non-seniors. Princeton's top four scorers on per-game average are non-seniors, and three of those are freshmen or sophomores (Weisz, Cook, Bell).
• Spencer Weisz is leading the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg, 10 points in front of junior Hans Brase. The last sophomore (or younger) to end the season leading the team in scoring was in the 2009-10 season when Douglas Davis '12 averaged 12.7 ppg. Since: Kareem Maddox '11 in 2010-11, Ian Hummer '13 in 2011-12 and 2012-13, and T.J. Bray '14 in 2013-14.
• Princeton coach Mitch Henderson is presently ninth on the program's all-time wins list, but seventh place isn't far off. He's now at 64 wins, behind predecessor Sydney Johnson (66) and John Thompson III (68). Both are fellow Tiger alumni, Johnson (head coach from 2007-11) in the Class of 1997 and Thompson (head coach from 2000-04) in the Class of 1988.
• In 58 Ivy League seasons, Princeton has posted 52 winning Ivy seasons, four 7-7 finishes and just two losing records.

• The Quakers started the season with five losses before getting three straight wins against Navy, Binghamton and Marist. Since, Penn lost to Vanderbilt and La Salle and will be coming off a 10-day break from competition, with the La Salle game on Dec. 30.
• Penn is 3-3 when reaching 35 points by halftime and 0-4 when it does not. Penn's point total hasn't been a good indicator of success, with the Quakers at 2-2 when they don't get to 60 points and 1-5 when they reach 60. In eight of the team's 10 games, Penn has scored fewer second-half points than first-half. By comparison, Princeton has scored more second-half points than first-half in 11 of its 15 games.
• Penn is 3-2 this season when it makes at least 35 percent of its 3-point tries and 0-5 when it does not.
• Penn won or tied the rebounding stat in each of its first eight games this season but lost that metric in each of the last two games.
• Penn's opponents average 13 turnovers a game, but in six of the team's 10 games, opponents have had 12 or fewer TOs. Penn's turnover low this season was 14, twice.
• Penn is 0-5 when opponents get to 40 by halftime and 3-2 when opponents are held below 40 at the half. Penn is 0-6 when opponents reach 71 points and 3-1 when holding foes to 70 or fewer. Similarly, Penn is 3-0 when opponents shoot below 40 percent and 0-7 when opponents make 40 percent of their shots from the field.
• From distance, Penn is 0-4 when opponents make 40 percent of their 3-point tries and 3-3 when it holds foes to below 40 percent from 3. Penn's foes average just six 3-pointers a game and Princeton averages nine, with only three Penn opponents making more than six 3s in a game this season. Penn is 1-2 in those games.
• Penn's 6-7 rookie forward Mike Auger has scored nine or more points in three of his four games, playing in the team's first three games but missing six straight due to a foot injury before returning Dec. 30 against La Salle.
• Penn has four categories in which it's in the national top 100 statistically, through Wednesday's games. Penn was 15th in fewest fouls (206), 84th in field goal percentage (.456), 88th in steals per game (7.4) and 100th in fewest turnovers (174).

| Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fourth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 64-41. Under Henderson, Princeton is 35-9 at home, 28-14 in the Ivy League, and 18-3 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 51-13 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first three campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Luehring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in ninth place on the Princeton all-time wins list, with predecessor Sydney Johnson '97 in eighth with 66 wins over four seasons. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, current San Diego Padre Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). Prior to Princeton, Henderson coached at Northwestern for 11 seasons under his final head coach at Princeton, Bill Carmody, from 2000-11. |
