Princeton (7-7, 2-3 Ivy League) is coming off back-to-back home victories over both Columbia and Cornell last weekend. All-Ivy junior Brittany Ptak had her best weekend of the season; she led the Tigers with 20 kills, and she did so without a single hitting error (.625).
Both Cara Mattaliano and Kendall Petererkin provided significant offense (35 kills between them), but head coach Sabrina King was also enthused by the play of her freshmen, who continue to build on their early experience. Freshmen led the team in assists (Claire Nussbaum, 42) and blocks (Nnenna Ibe, 6), while Brittany Smith had her best Ivy weekend with 12 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
Brooke Hershberger also played in both matches and provided some offensive help in key spots.
Those wins, combined with other league results, leaves Princeton in the middle of a cluster in the Ivy League standings. Both Harvard and Dartmouth share the Ivy lead with matching 4-1 records, while Cornell is at the bottom at 0-5. The remaining five teams are either 3-2 or 2-3, and Princeton will play two of those teams this weekend.
The Tigers will start their weekend at Brown (8-8, 2-3 Ivy), which won its first two home matches of the season and nearly upset Harvard in a five-set showdown last weekend. Sophomore libero Melissa Cairo has been the leader of the Bears' defense this season; she leads the Ivies with 4.89 digs per set, while Princeton senior co-captain Sarah Daschbach ranks third with 4.44.
Yale, the reigning co-champion, is currently 8-6 overall and 3-2 in Ivy play. The Bulldogs, who have won seven straight matches over Princeton, are led by senior Kelly Johnson, who is averaging 4.2 points per set this season.
Both matches will be streamed live on the Ivy League Digital Network. All links can be found within the chart above.
