PRINCETON, N.J. (10/29/15) - Off a two-game sweep of Mercyhurst in last weekend's opening series, the Princeton women's hockey team will begin ECAC play Friday night at Yale and Saturday afternoon at Brown.
Friday's game will start at 7 p.m. in New Haven, with a 4 p.m. puck drop Saturday in Providence. Princeton received a vote in Monday's USCHO.com national top 10, with Cornell, Colgate and St. Lawrence also in the receiving-votes category among ECAC teams and No. 4 Clarkson, No. 5 Quinnipiac, No. 8 Harvard and No. 10 Dartmouth in the rankings, giving the league more than half its 12 teams either in the top 10 or receiving votes.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
The Tigers opened the season 2-0 for the first time in three years with the pair of wins in Erie and will look to sweep the Yale-Brown road weekend for the first time in two years after splitting late last season with a win at Brown.
Four Tigers contributed the team's five goals in the 3-2 and 2-1 wins at Mercyhurst last weekend with junior Morgan Sly getting a pair. Karlie Lund's goal and two assists netted her ECAC Rookie of the Week honors. Senior Kimberly Newell picked up both wins between the pipes last weekend and carries a GAA of 1.50 into the Yale-Brown trip.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS & BEARS
Yale played just one game last weekend, a 6-3 loss at nearby Quinnipiac that did not count toward ECAC play. Hanna Mandl played the full game in goal for the Bulldogs, while Janelle Ferrara, Emily Monaghan and Krista Yip-Chuck split Yale's three tallies.
Brown went to Maine last weekend, where the Black Bears split the weekend 4-0 and 4-1. Bridget Carey had the goal for Brown while Monica Elvin and Julianne Landry split the games in goal.
THE SERIES WITH YALE & BROWN
Princeton carries an eight-game winning streak against Brown with the Bears' last win coming in 2010. The Tigers are unbeaten in their last nine games against Brown in Providence, with the Bears' last win over Princeton on home ice coming in 2006.
Yale has split with Princeton in each of the last three years, though Princeton has had at least one win over the Bulldogs in each of the last 10 seasons. Yale won in Princeton's last trip there a season ago, but the Tigers won there two trips ago in November 2013.
In last year's trip, Sly had a pair of goals against Brown in a 4-1 win with Emily Achterkirch and Jaimie McDonell each adding one and McDonell getting the goal in a 2-1 loss at Yale the next day. Kimberly Newell got the split in goal on the weekend.
