Women's Volleyball Keeps Push Going, Tops Ivy Co-Leader Dartmouth 3-0
October 31, 2015 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team continued its fight back from an early deficit in the Ivy League, and now it is facing one of its biggest opportunities of the season. The Tigers swept Dartmouth in three close sets Friday night, and will host first-place Harvard Saturday at 5 pm with a chance to get within one match of first place in the Ivy League.
Princeton improved to 5-4 in Ivy play — an impressive feat considering its 0-3 start — with a 25-23, 25-21, 27-25 victory over the Big Green Friday night in Dillon Gym. Junior Cara Mattaliano led the Tigers with 14 kills, while senior Kendall Peterkin added 11 to clinch the win.
Princeton also received impressive play from its middle duo of Brittany Ptak and Nnenna Ibe. Ptak had nine kills and hit .312, while Ibe had four kills and four blocks while hitting .333.
Freshman setter Claire Nussbaum, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, had Princeton highs in both assists (32) and digs (11). Senior setter Sarah Daschbach added seven digs, while Mattaliano had eight.
The Tigers built early leads in each of the first two sets, although they needed to rally late for a 25-23 win in the first set. Dartmouth was the early leader in the third set and had two set balls, but the Tigers fought both off and ultimately claimed a 27-25 victory.
Princeton will host Harvard, a 3-0 winner over Penn Friday night, Saturday at 5 pm in Dillon Gym.
