November 16, 2015 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – Annie Tarakchian of the 25th-ranked Princeton University women's basketball team has been named the Ivy League women's basketball Player of the Week after helping the Tigers to a pair of season-opening wins over American and Duquesne.
Dating back to last season, a Princeton player has claimed the Ivy League Player of the Week award in each of the last 15 weeks the team has played a game and been eligible, accounting for the longest such streak in conference history.
Off to a stellar start, Tarakchian averaged 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds over the weekend, shooting 52.2 percent (12-23) from the field and 50.0 percent (6-12) from long distance. Against American, Tarakchian finished with 20 points and 12 boards, hitting 6-of-12 shot attempts and 3-of-6 three-pointers while also going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
Turning in another double-double on Sunday, Tarakchian had 19 points and 10 rebounds against Duquesne. Knocking down 4-of-7 field goal attempts, she was 3-for-6 from long distance in 32 minutes of action.
Nabbing the sixth POTW honor of her career, Tarakchian becomes the 19th player to accomplish the feat and the fourth from Princeton, joining Sandi Bittler (6, 1987-90), Niveen Rasheed (14, 2009-13) and Blake Dietrick (11, 2011-15).
