Fiechter's Thriller At No. 1 Highlights Women's Squash Win At GW
November 22, 2015 | Women's Squash
While Princeton won seven of the nine matches by 3-0 scores, the featured showdown at No. 1 lived up to all expectations. George Washington's Anna Porras, who finished last season ranked 13th nationally, pushed Princeton All-America honoree Olivia Fiechter to the distance, but the Tiger sophomore had all the late answers in a 3-2 win. Fiechter, who finished last season ranked third nationally, dropped the opening two games, but she finished the victory with scores of 11-3, 11-8 and 11-5.
That would be the closest match of the day, though fellow Princeton All-America Maria Elena Ubina found herself even at 1-1 in the No. 2 spot before finishing Breanne Flynn with wins of 11-6 and 11-4.
Two Princeton players posted successful collegiate debuts, including Isabel Hirshberg, who dropped only eight points in a 3-0 win at No. 8. Classmate Kate Feeley matched that effort in a 3-0 win over her own at No. 9.
The Tigers will be off Thanksgiving week, but will return to the court Wed., Dec. 2, with a road match at Drexel.
