PRINCETON, N.J. (11/5/15) - Off to a 4-0 start the No. 10-ranked Princeton women's hockey team hosts Cornell and Colgate this weekend in the first home games of the season.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton is ranked in both national polls this week, coming in at No. 10. The Tigers are 4-0 after sweeping Mercyhurst and then Yale and Brown last weekend as the team began ECAC and Ivy League action. Freshman Karlie Lund sits atop the scoring column with five points on one goal and a team-best four assists. Junior Morgan Sly has scored three times and adds one assist, while freshman defender Stephanie Sucharda has three points on one goal and two helpers. Fellow blueliner junior Kelsey Koelzer has two goals. Senior Kimberly Newell is 3-0 in net with a .929 save percentage and a 2.00. SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is still looking for its first win of the season after opening 0-3-1. The Big Red dropped two games to No. 2 Boston College at home and followed up with an overtime loss to RPI and a 2-2 tie with Union. Junior Hanna Bunton is the only player with more than one point, as she has scored two goals, including the tying goal with the Dutchwomen last week. Either other skaters have one point including Kaitlin Doering and Pippy Grace who have scored Cornell's other two goals. Junior Paula Voorheis has started in three games in goal and has a .922 save percentage and a 2.66 GAA. Freshman Marlene Boissonnault and senior Stefannie Moak have also seen action.
PRINCETON/CORNELL SERIES
Princeton leads Cornell 43-32-3 in the series since it began in 1979-80. The Tigers swept the series last year, winning 5-4 in Ithaca in October before a 3-2 game at home in February.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is 4-1-3 overall, with its lone loss at Merrimack in a series split. The Raiders are tied for fifth in the ECAC, following two ties last weekend to Union and RPI. Freshman Shae Labbe leads the team offensively with five goals and four assists for nine points. Sophomore defender Lauren Wildfang, freshman Bailey Larson and sophomore Shelby Perry all have eight points. Sophomore Annika Zalewski and freshman Jessie Eldridge have each scored four goals to rank second on the team in that catergory while freshman defender Olivia Zafuto is the assist leader with seven. Senior Ashlynne Rando is 3-1-2 with a an .899 save percentage and a 2.29 GAA. Freshman Julia Vandyk is 1-0-1 as the backup.
PRINCETON/COLGATE SERIES
Princeton owns a 24-8-3 edge in the sreies with Colgate. The Tigers swept the series last year, 4-2 and 4-1.
