Princeton led by as many as six points in the first half, but a strong start to the second half for Maryland lifted the Terrapins, ranked sixth in the nation by the AP and seventh by the coaches, to an 82-61 win Saturday night in Baltimore.
Maryland had played several games in the venue now known as Royal Farms Arena in the 1990s but hadn't played there since 1999. The Terps, in front of an announced crowd of 11,026, ran their record in the building to 10-2 all-time.
Henry Caruso led Princeton with 17 points as the only Tiger in double figures, though Amir Bell with nine points and Spencer Weisz with eight were a bucket away.
Princeton took a 25-19 lead with 6:36 to go before half on a Henry Caruso 3-pointer, but the Terrapins responded with a 19-2 run to take an eight-point lead at 35-27 just three minutes later. The Terps took a four-point lead into the break.
Maryland saved its best for the second half to pull away, shooting 65.5 percent after the break to outscore Princeton 47-30 in the frame and open up a lead that grew to 26 points. Four Terrapins finished in double figures, led by 19 points from Jake Layman.
Princeton will return home to host Bucknell Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Jadwin Gym. The first 500 fans will receive a Princeton beanie.
