PRINCETON, N.J. (12/2/15) - The Princeton women's hockey team kickstarts a six-game homestand this weekend as it returns to ECAC action, hosting No. 7 Harvard and Dartmouth, Dec. 4 & 5 at Hobey Baker Rink.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is 7-4-1 overall and coming off of a series sweep at RIT last weekend. The Tigers outscored RIT 10-1 during the weekend. In league play, Princeton is 3-4-1 and sits fifth in the standings. Princeton has the ninth-best scoring defense in the country, allowing just 1.83 goals per game. The tandem of senior Kimberly Newell and sophomore Alysia DaSilva boost those numbers. Newell is 5-3-1- in goal with a 1.77 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. DaSilva is 2-1 with a 1.00 GAA and a .955 save percentage. Offensively, the freshman Karlie Lund is the team's leading scorer with 13 points on six goals and seven assists. She leads the ECAC in points per game for rookies, and is third nationally at 1.08 ppg. Juniors Kelsey Koelzer and Hilary Lloyd follow up with eight points apiece, while Morgan Sly adds seven. Princeton's penalty kill, ranked second nationally at 96.2 percent will face the power plays of Harvard (27.6%) and Dartmouth (25%) - both of which rank in the top five in the country.
PRINCETON/HARVARD SERIES
Harvard holds a 46-30-4 lead in the all-time series, those Princeton has gotten the better of the Crimson at home, winning 16 games (16-7-3) of 26. The Tigers won the last meeting, a 1-0 game at Hobey Baker Rink on Jan. 31, its first over Harvard since 2011-12. Harvard has two new assistant coaches this season with ties to Princeton. Liz Keady is a 2008 graduate of Princeton, while Lee-J Mirasolo was Princeton's assistant coach for the last four seasons.
SCOUTING HARVARD
No. 7 Harvard is 8-2-1 overall and split its series at Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The Crimson are 5-1-1 in the league, going 5-0 since starting the season 0-1-1 with a loss to Dartmouth and a tie with Clarkson. Senior Miye D'Oench has scored eight goals and eight assists to lead the team with 16 points. Sophomores Haley Mullins and Karly Heffernan are next on the list but do their damage on assists. Mullins has 10 points on one goal and nine assists, while Heffernan has one goal and eight helpers. Junior Sydney Daniels and freshman Grace Zarcecki follow with eight points apiece. Senior Emerance Maschmeyer has started in six games in goal and is 4-2 with a 1.34 GAA and a .958 - the second-best save percentage in the nation. Junior Brianna Laing and senior Molly Tissenbaum have played in three games apiece. Laing is the sister of Princeton's Denna Laing '14, and is joined on the team by younger sister Lexie.
PRINCETON/DARTMOUTH SERIES
Princeton owns a 40-31-6 edge in the all-time series with Dartmouth. Princeton is 3-0-1 in the last four games, with Dartmouth's last win coming on Jan. 12, 2013. The teams last played to a 2-2 draw on Jan. 30 at Hobey Baker Rink. Prior to that, the Tigers earned a 5-2 win an two 3-2 victories.
SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green head into the weekend with a 4-4-2 record, and most recently dropped a pair of games at No. 1 Wisconsin. In the ECAC, Dartmouth is 4-1-2 to sit third in the standings. The team gets the majority of its scoring from upperclassmen with senior Lindsey Allen leading the way with 10 points on seven goals and three assists. Senior Laura Stacey has nine points on a team-high seven assists and two goals. Junior Kennedy Ottenbreit adds four goals and four assists, while junior defender Eleni Tebano has collected six assists. Junior Robyn Chemago has played in nine of 10 games and has a 4-3-2 record with a 1.70 GAA and a .943 save percentage.
