PRINCETON, N.J. (12/9/15) - The Princeton women's hockey team hosts Penn State in a two-game series this weekend at Hobey Baker Rink. The teams will face off on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERSThe Tigers are riding a four-game unbeaten streak that includes a sweep of No. 7 Harvard and Dartmouth from last weekend. Overall the team is 9-4-1 and is receiving votes in both national polls this week. The team is ranked second in the ECAC standings with a 5-4-1 mark. Pacing the offense is freshman Karlie Lund. She has scored seven goals and nine assists for 16 points. Junior Kelsey Koelzer, the ECAC Player of the Week, and Hilary Lloyd have 10 points apiece, with Morgan Sly following with nine points and Molly Contini with eight. Senior Kimberly Newell, this week's ECAC Goalie of the Week, has started in 11 of 14 games and has a .944 save percentage and a 1.63 GAA. Sophomore Alysia DaSilva is 2-1 with a .955 save percentage and a 1.00 GAA.
PRINCETON/PENN STATE SERIES
Princeton is 3-1 in the young series against Penn State. The teams split the series last year - which marked the season opener for the Tigers. Penn State won Game 1, 2-1 before a 4-1 Princeton victory the next day.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
Penn State is 4-10-4 overall and 1-3-4 in College Hockey America. Princeton is the third ECAC team on Penn State's schedule this season - they swept Union by matching 3-0 scores in mid-October and lost a pair at St. Lawrence two weeks ago. Juniors Laura Bowman and Amy Peterson lead the team in scoring with 11 points apiece. Bowman has a team-high eight goals and three assists, while Peterson has a team-best eight assists and three goals. Freshman Victoria Samuelsson chips in seven points, while senior Shannon Yoxheimer has six. Senior Celine Whitlinger has started in 13 of 18 games and has a .947 save percentage and a 1.59 GAA. Sophomore Hannah Ehresmann backs up with a .900 save percentage and a 3.05 GAA in five games.
