Kampersal Named Ivy League Coach of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/26/15) - Jeff Kampersal, head coach of the Princeton women's hockey team has been named the Ivy League Coach of the Year, while four student-athletes have been named All-Ivy League.
Sophomore defender Kelsey Koelzer was named first-team all-Ivy, while juniors Jaimie McDonell and Kimberly Newell were named to the second team. Sophomore Molly Contini captured honorable mention honors.
The Tigers finished in second place in the Ivy League and was in contention for the title throughout the season. Princeton went 7-2-1 in the league, including two wins over Cornell for the first time in eight seasons and a split with Harvard.
Koelzer ranks second nationally in points per game for a defender. With 26 points on eight goals and a team-high 18 helpers, Koelzer is second on the team in points. She had her best offensive game vs. Brown on Jan. 10, scoring the game-winning goal and adding two assists. Koelzer also notched six other multiple-point games.
McDonell is third on the team in scoring with 25 points with 11 goals and 14 assists. She had seven multiple-point games and including a two-goal game at Dartmouth on Dec. 6 when she tallied the game winner. McDonell currently has a +12 on-ice rating.
Newell owns a 12-12-2 record with two shutouts. She has a .928 save percentage and a 2.23 goals against average. Newell recorded three 40+ save performances this season and an additional seven 30+ save games.
The team's leading scorer, Contini has collected a team-best 16 goals and adds 12 assists. She has tallied three game-winning goals and one game-tying goal. During the season she had a five-game goal scoring streak, the longest documented scoring streak in Princeton history. Contini was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Month in November and the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week on Feb. 1.
Princeton faces Quinnipiac this weekend in the ECAC Quarterfinals.
