Morgan, Ratcliffe Claim Wins as Princeton Sits in First After Day 1 of Heps

DAY 1 RESULTS
PRINCETON, N.J. - Racking up 48 points, the Princeton women's track & field team sits in first place after the first day of competition at the 2015 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonals.
Columbia is currently in second place with 28 points, followed by Cornell (23), Dartmouth (20) and Harvard (18) in the top five. Brown (9), Yale (6) and Penn (3) round out the field.
Breaking her own school record, Taylor Morgan won the indoor pentathlon with a score of 3923. Teammate Kerry Krause picked up two additional points for Princeton in the event by placing fifth with a score of 3627. Besting her previous record of 3777 set at Penn State's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup, Morgan is Princeton's third-ever pentathlon winner.
In the 60m hurdles portion of the pentathlon, Morgan (8.93) and Krause (9.02) came in third and fourth, respectively. Morgan was second in the high jump at 1.68m (5-06.00), while Krause took fourth (1.59m). Morgan and Krause were then 1-2 in the shot put at 11.96m and 10.96m, respectively. After registering the best mark in the long jump at 5.46m (17-11.00), Morgan was fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:20.13.
Notching Princeton's other win, Julia Ratcliffe won her first ever indoor weight throw heps title with a toss of 19.48m (63-11.00). Setting the mark on her final attempt, her throw was more than three meters further than her closest competitor.
For the second consecutive season, Megan Curham was the runner-up in the 3000m run, clocking in at 9:23.33. Kathryn Fluehr rounded out the top three with a time of 9:25.15 as Princeton claimed 14 points in the event.
Entering the weekend with the second-best mark in the pole vault, Allison Harris ultimately placed third, clearing 3.70m (12-01.50). Sara Ronde was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.70 (18-08.50).
Kim Mackay posted the top preliminary time in the 500m, clocking in at 1:12.94. Meghan McMullin also qualified for the finals with a time of 1:14.69. In the prelims of the 800m run, Cecilia Barowski posted the second-fastest time of the afternoon at 2:11.45.
Turning in a time 56.07 in the 400m dash, Jasmine Blocker qualified for Sunday's finals. With a solid showing in the 1000m, Princeton's Lizzie Bird and Zoe Sims qualified for the finals with times of 2:51.17 and 2:51.89, respectively. The Tigers also had a trio of qualifiers in the mile run in Katie Hanss (4:50.91), Rachael Chacko (4:53.35) and Melinda Renuart (4:55.15).
The championship will resume on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 11 a.m. and a live stream will be available beginning at noon.
