March 01, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Princeton opened Sunday's home doubleheader with a 4-3 win over Buffalo that came down to the final match.
Princeton won the first two doubles matches to wrap up and claim the day's first point, and then the teams split the two singles matches to finish in two sets with Kial Kaiser picking up Princeton's second point on court five. The splits continued with Josh Yablon winning on court three but Alex Day falling on court two, leaving the match up to Tom Colautti at first singles and Luke Gamble at fourth. Gamble fell in three sets, but Colautti bounced back from a second-set tiebreaker loss to defeat Buffalo's Damien David 6-2 in the third set to claim the match.
Princeton didn't give up a match against Monmouth, clinching the doubles point and getting wins from Day, Kaiser, Gamble and Diego Vives in the 5-0 win.
With the wins, Princeton improves to 11-3 on the season and will have another doubleheader next Sunday in Jadwin Gym against Binghamton and Army with matches starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Coach Billy Pate on the matches: "It wasn't the easiest thing to do for our guys to travel back from a very tough, emotional loss at Penn State last night and play two quality teams today against Buffalo and Monmouth. Buffalo really came after us as expected and it took a good effort to hold them off. Similar to yesterday, we let a couple of matches get away from us and that's something we need to work on. We clearly need to control momentum when we have it while playing key points more decisively. Part of that is our youth, but it will improve over time and these close matches will help us going forward. We did a better job of getting leads and maintaining them in the second match against Monmouth. We'll get a bit of a break this week and then prepare for one more doubleheader next Sunday before our spring break trip." |
