No. 10 Women's Water Polo Splits Matches Against Hawaii, San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The 10th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team closed out play at the Aztec Invitational by splitting a pair of matches against No. 8 Hawaii and No. 12 San Diego State.
Narrowly edged out by Hawaii to start the day (L, 7-6), the Tigers bounced back in the afternoon session, dispatching of host SDSU, 6-4. Remaining on the West Coast, Princeton will compete at the LMU Invitational on Mar. 20-21.

Holding onto a 3-1 lead at the intermission, Hawaii netted three of the four goals in the third quarter to pad its cushion. Roaring back, the Tigers held a 3-1 scoring edge in the final frame before ultimately falling short, 7-6.
Jessie Holechek and Ashley Hatcher each netted a pair of goals, while Haley Wan and Pippa Temple accounted for Princeton's other two scores. Temple and Holechek also dished out a pair of assists, while Wan and Camille Hooks picked up a helper apiece. Morgan Hallock drew four ejections, while Emily Smith nabbed a pair of steals.
Falling to 9-2 on the season, Ashleigh Johnson finished with 12 saves. Making eight stops in the first half, Johnson turned away four of the five Hawaii shots-on-goal in the fourth to keep Princeton within striking distance.

Up 4-2 at the break, the Tigers netted three unanswered in the third quarter to push their lead to four. Holding off a late SDSU charge, Princeton did just enough down the stretch, holding onto a two-goal margin of victory.
Ashley Hatcher led the Tigers with two goals, while Sydney Cheong, Morgan Hallock, Jessie Holechek and Sydney Saxe each recorded a goal. Camille Hooks dished out a pair of assists, while Haley Wan, Taylor Dunstan, Pippa Temple and Holechek also had a helper. Hallock drew a team-high four ejections.
Making four saves in each of the first two quarters, Ashleigh Johnson had five stops in the third quarter. Turning away three of the five SDSU shots in the final frame, Johnson finished with 16 saves.
