Men's Golf Climbs Leaderboard as Princeton Invitational Closes
April 13, 2015 | Men's Golf
Princeton rose five spots to fifth place after the Merion round as the Princeton Invitational wrapped Sunday.
The Tigers were 10th in the 13-team field after finishing at +24 following Saturday's round at Aronimink Golf Club, but Princeton was 15 shots better a few miles away at Merion Golf Club Sunday. The +9 finish at Merion was tied for the second-best team score for those 18 holes, behind only the even-par score Yale turned in on its way to winning the tournament.
The Bulldogs were 15 shots better than Temple and Seton Hall over the 36-hole event. Temple's Brandon Matthews held on to his 18-hole lead, finishing as the only player under par for the event at -1. Matthews' round of 68 Saturday was equaled Sunday by Princeton's Quinn Prchal and Yale's Joe Willis as the tournament's low round.
Prchal led Princeton and was one of two Tigers with a top-10 finish, with Prchal placng for eighth at +3 for the tournament, one shot better than teammate Marc Hedrick, who tied for ninth at +4.
The Tigers will be away from competition next weekend before the Ivy League Championship gets underway April 24 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
