PRINCETON, N.J. – Ashleigh Johnson of the 13th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team was named both the Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Association (CWPA) Player of the Week and Defensive POTW after helping the Tigers to a 2-1 mark last weekend.
Seeing action in two of the team's games, Johnson posted a 1-1 record. Logging 72:44 minutes, the standout goalkeeper stopped 30 of the 50 shots she faced en route to a 0.600 save percentage.
Playing all 40:44 minutes of a triple overtime thriller against No. 12 Indiana University, Johnson recorded 12 saves, while dishing out a pair of assists. Helping the Tigers knock off No. 16 Michigan the following evening, Johnson posted 18 stops. Tallying five saves in the first period, she had three stops in the second. Adding five more in the third, she also recorded five saves in the final frame.
Registering double-digit saves in 11 of her appearances this season, Johnson's 18 stops against the Wolverines marked her third highest total of the season. Making 20 saves in a win over No. 11 Long Beach State (Feb. 14), Johnson recorded a school record 22 saves in a victory over CWPA rival George Washington on Mar. 28.
Also garnering Defensive POTW accolades on Apr. 2 and Feb. 16, this is Johnson's third weekly honor of the season.
